My wife fears the completion of the boat because what will I do? Probably bother her.

Nothing too photogenic.
Prepping the cap. Looking to shoot the cap from the rub rail to an inch onto the floor Sunday. The weather is FINALLY cool enough. Peeled all the tape from the floor coats. I had to hot coat the floor last week as it was sticky. My assumption is that this gel coat does not like less than 1% mekp thus why it was still sticky from the summer coats from backing off the mekp to buy time. It was setting almost instantly. Even last week mixing 750ml with 7.5 ml of mekp gave me just enough time to dump and roll. The floor is good now. Hit it with acetone and there was no white on my gloves. Sunday Morning is supposed be like 62 degrees so that should give me the working time to dump gun a cup at a time. The cups fit about 600-700 ml. For now it’s just filling, sanding washing prepping and masking for Sunday morning.

Decided to throw some of the stickers on the cowling. WOW!!!! They look amazing. These are 1980 stickers on a 1989 cowling. Nostalgia. I can’t wait for someone to say they didn’t make a 235 in 89. lol. Really nice quality. HUGE shout out to Discontinued Decals for these beauty’s. Despite the age difference I didn’t have to trim them at all.

Not much to see for a REALLLY long, hard day. Shot 5 liters of gelcoat mixed with 1/3 duratec at about 3/4 liter at a time through a dump gun. It came out really good. Yes, it’s going to need a wet sanding and a polishing but the orange peel is minimal. Much less than the transom. The dump gun is a pain in the ass when you want to shoot horizontal surfaces because gel coat drips out the vent hole. I taped a piece of towel over the hole so it vents but blocks the drip. Had to fully clean the gun and pot and change the towel every time. Went through a gallon of acetone. All I know is that I never want to do that again. I have about a liter left of gelcoat and a little duratec. 15 gallons gone. Still need more for the casts. Looking to get the non skid floor sections down next weekend.

Special thanks to Chandler and the fellas at Budget Boats in Chesapeake VA. Wow what a place! They have EVERYTHING. They are a full service boat facility but their used inventory is staggering! I spent two hours inside and out in the yard browsing and buying. Yes, sometimes new is better but other times you cannot beat vintage quality. I did well there. Reasonably priced and a great staff. This is the kind of place I want to work at! I wish I found them sooner.
Give Them a call at 757 543 7595.
