Sow's Ear/Silk purse...thanks, Publix!
« on: September 10, 2011, 02:44:40 PM »
Bought a 3 lb. Sirloin Tip roast the other day (on sale, normally excellent!), Maggie roast's it in her convection oven...the damn thing is so full of gristle, fat, virtually unsliceable.  We get maybe a pound and a half of useable meat of it, the rest goes to Baby (see avatar).  So were pissed.  She says get our money back from Publix.  In the meantime, she throws all the meat in the pressure cooker, decides to make chili.  I go up to the same Publix this morn, ask for our money back, cheerfully refunded.  Get home, chili is in the crockpot...

Awesome chili, meat is fall-off-the-bone tender...and free!  All because some butcher thought he could pass off what clearly was an inferior cut of meat and make the company some money.  Wrong move, pal...

And we will continue to shop Publix...

Hell yes!!  She does hers from scratch, including soaking the beans...gotta have plenty of beans!  Doesn't have to be cold out to fix a pot of chili...

A batch of skillet corn bread doesn't hurt, either...

Beans are a must in chili as far as I am concerned.  Not sure what they were thinking in Texas when they came up with their version of chili, Texas chili is beanless.  Corn bread is an awesome side with chili. I like my chili served over rice  :thumleft:

Yup, Publix is the dog everyone's chasin'
Tough to beat the hospitality and atmosphere in one of their stores - "where shopping is a pleasure" is right (if you have to go shopping   )

The only other store I'll shop is Goodings, but they are in the O-Town area, wish they would branch out over here.  When I lived over there, Publix wouldn't get the time of day from me...
