Rick,

Is it worth buying that tool, especially since the transom is so small on the 17? I have a regular block sander....

From the pics you should be able to get by with a hand board the size of that stroke sander. Put some 40 or 60 on it and go back and forth between the board and the orbital to get your highs down.

Someone said something about using rattle-can paint, I'm assiming this is to show imperfections and high/low points?

Kraw, you said to roll on a coat of resin after I have the fairing/ surfacing compound sanded. This wont give you a huge "orange Peal" effect?

For $30 I think I would grab it - unless you need some exercise

What I need is to get this damn thing done.

I would have had this thing wrapped up a month ago if I didn't have a "Day Job" or "was getting married in a week and apparently when you spend too much time at the shop your fiance does not appreciate the fact that you are not spending time helping her plan and hot glue do-dads together and complain about how much our families are equally retarded and how we are paying so much money to have people eat our food and drink our booze and how dare I even think about buying a new trailer for that "USS Chitbox" boat of yours your stupid SOB"

I digress.

I just want to get this puppy painted so I can start working out the bugs.

it's always a race to see who gets home first. There were a few close calls, like when I knew my brand new teleflex steering system was sitting on my doorstep. She beat me home..................

"That sounds expensive.......... please tell me it was less than $200?" Ehhhhhhhh,,,,,,,uhaaaaaa "300!??????" Errrrrrrrrrummmmmmmmmmm "JESUS CHRIST, HOW MUCH WAS IT???????" around $475 "FOR A STEERING WHEEL????" No, the steering wheel was $125 " so you just paid for a steering system that didn't have a steering wheel!!!???" Well it sounds kinda silly if you put it like that.

I remind her that the piece of hardware on her ring finger is worth more than my boat....two fold, and you cant even fish off it.

Tread lightly grasshopper.....  When one dances with tigers you are sure to get bitten.  Playing the "that ring cost" card is equivalent to Annapolis launching a high yield nuke at Army 'cause Navy might lose...  Save it for something really important..

Like a new engine  !

Once the wedding is behind you,(don't even think about  getting out of helping with Thank you notes) it does get a little more relaxing.

HAHAHA! I'm already working on the thank you cards.

The only thing left to buy is my rubrail, which should be in the works today. The boat is on blocks getting blasted today. The hull should be ready for primer by Sunday. The Interior...she has a bit more sanding and fairing left.

The shop where I have been working on my boat has been sold, so I have until the end of August to get her DONE. Needless to say....I will be there just about every day after work and most of the weekend to get it done.

The only part i'm a little nervous about is how long the wiring will take. I mean, MOST everything is plug and play regarding the motor, but everything else in the console........is going to take some time, for sure.

I have a VHF, Stereo, GPS/Plotter, all my interior/ nav/ led/ fishbox lighting and a few little things like my aux power (cigarette lighter) and such. Is it insane to think I can rig this all in one day?

Might just finish the console first and get everything installed before it goes on the boat. A little Henry Ford.

Fletch, you remind me of me when I was a younger me

Here's some sage advice: Lose the battles....win the wars

My wife doesn't give a chit about boats, but all she wants to talk about is how much money I piss away and what am I gonna do about it not being ready and what do your friends on that damn Aquanet think about you pissing away all this money and it not even being ready, huh?????

The greatest thing about a woman is that they can run their life and your life simultaneously. And to our two female members, I'm sorry, but its true, at least at my ranch.

Maybe this should be on chum

Maybe just tell all your friends you are registered at West Marine... :D

I run into a similar issue. Good thing she has no clue the $$$ I am sinking into my project. Call it creative accounting. I also changed my shipping address to my work.

My main issue is time. I have to get really innovative. Leaving early for work, stopping by the shop for a bit on the way in, going out to "run errands" ect.

I am lucky to get 8 hours in on the boat each week. I spend the rest of the week thinking about how to maximize the time I do steal...
