Doctors or Guns?
« on: August 27, 2011, 06:16:27 PM »
From my friend Dan:

Think about Doctors:
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services.

Think about Guns:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.
(Yes, that's 80 million)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.0000188
Statistics courtesy of FBI

So, statistically speaking, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

FACT: Not everyone has a gun but everyone has a doctor or access to a doctor.
Almost everyone has access to at least one doctor.
This means the average person is 9,000 times more likely to be killed by a doctor as by a gun owner.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat.
We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!

Out of concern for the public at large, we withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention...

Sadly true.
I got in an argument with a pharmacist one time about a mistake on a prescription.  He was proud of the fact that of all the prescriptions dispensed in the US only 7% were in error.  i asked him what he thought would happen to the 28,000 commercial airline flights per day if 7% of the commercial airline mechanics screwed up.  He did not have much to say after that.

JJ,
So, with all the "warnings" we hear on pharm ads, like, "taking this could cause death". and he was proud?

What ever happened to "Zero Defects"?

I got shot by a doctor once and live to tell about it.

Guess that kinda skews the odds :?

Fortunately, no lawyers were involved. 8)

Well JJ,
Some preachers have the reputation as healers, then again some doctors have been known to preach.

I would guess that the control factor in the stats would be......

Were you practicing law, medicine or sinnin' at the time you got plugged????
