Yeah, cable and power out.  I heard that most cell towers only have 4 hrs fuel for the generator.

I know Scott, CJ, Jesse, don't want to hear this, but today was probably the best day we have had all summer.  Irene has basically sucked all the moisture out of the southeast, so it was very dry, almost cloudless, with about a 15 knot breeze...almost like a hot winter day...

Carry on fellers, hunker down!  As has been said..."This too shall pass..."

Thankfully, we didn't get any real action here. I've been enjoying the cool temps and breeze myself. I hope Scott's doing ok.

Taking a nice beating here in Greenville, NC as well.  No power and winds 60 to 65.

JD - looks like you are in the eye now!  Hang in there - Greenville will get a LOT of water.

Just talked with Scott - they are on the backside of the storm now, with 30-40 MPH winds.  Looks lke they made it through OK.  Scott said they have no big damage, only some limbs down.  He said their yard looks about like you would expect from a big thunderstorm and will not be a big cleanup job once the rain stops. Good news for them!

Storm is tracking NNE and looks to go over the Beaufort/Dare county peninsula - not a lot of people there - but water can pile up in the Pamlico Sound and flood a lot of that area.  Looks like Washington and Greenville will be getting slammed in the next couple hours or so.  Good luck to John DuPree and Big Mike!

Norfolk could be hit pretty hard later today or tonight.  I heard the Navy moved their ships to sea in advance of the storm.   :thumleft:   Newport News shipyard will have their challeges with a couple carriers being overhauled and scaffolding everywhere.

The amazing video I have seen is of what folks up in NJ and NY are doing - just putting duct tape X on the glass and turning the furniture on their balconies upside down!     Let's see - what's going to happen to that furniture?     Either the NJ stuff will be in NY, or it will just go through the glass and be inside, where it should have been all along.

Yeah, my in-laws are on Delaware Bay just around the point from Cape May.  Dead center.  What have they done to prep?  Nothing other than put a couple of lawn chairs in the garage.

Thanks for the update CJ

Suffolk county checkin in. So far, inhave evacuated my parents and raised up their furniture. The are in a 0 elevation zone on the north shore of Long Island. I, however are at my in-laws at about 165' elevation. My boat is trailered up and actually I am using my Ford Explore to weigh it down! I hope they both don't get damaged. Good Luck all.

NJ checking in, so far just a lot of rain. Pulled the boat yesterday and ran her inland. Thier talking a 6 foot storm surge on top of a moon tide, that'll put the  marina under 3 feet of water. That by itself isn't too bad, but over the winter they re-bulkhead and all the old pilings are stacked all around the yard. 3 feet of water and they become torpedos.
