Hurricane Irene check-in 2011
« on: August 25, 2011, 10:21:13 PM »
Thought I would start this for all the East coast folks that are affected by the storm to check in and let us make sure they are ok.Guys the time to prep is now, board up windows, tape does nothing, get water, propane, ice, can food, batteries, flashlights[the big square  6 volt ones work best and last the longest]some kind of portable radio, charge phones, fill cars with gas,get some extra cash, atms wont work,if you have a close neighbor put the boat between  2 houses to block wind, remove all canvas, the wind will shred it,if on a trailer remove plug.

Please check in and let us know you are ok,and let us know if you need help.Stay safe :salut:

You left out one thing on your list Pete.  "LEAVE"
Seriously, anyone near the coast head inland.  It's not worth it.

Yep, been there, done that with Charlie, Francis, and Jeanne.  Oh yeah, Opal got me in 1995 all the way up in Birmingham.  It's a helluva wake up call when a tree comes through your bedroom ceiling at 3AM and drops a rotating ceiling fan in your lap.  I don't remember the name but in 1977 another one came through Birmingham and flooded me out.  Water up to the window sills.

We will be thinking about you guys.

Have to agree with leaving if you can, secure your home and go,make sure you don't wait till the last minute, last time they had Floridians leave many were stuck in traffic, ran out of gas,in a hurricane,it was nuts, they don't reccomend it any more, now we are supposed to "hunker down"whatever that means,we board up,spend the worst of the storm in a large closet.Make the choice that you feel comfortable with but most importantly dont wait to make preparations, supplies go fast and everyone is after the same thing at the same time.stay safe my friends :salut:

Pete and brothers...thanks.

As you may know....very close to ground zero here.

This is a big nasty...but the NE quadrant we won't feel. Most likely the OB (Outer Banks) won't feel it either.  A good thing.

Have been through many. Two blocks from the ICW.

If you guys remember Lew's flounder pics from last summer...My house is 22 feet above sea-level. NE quadrant has no windows. Plenty of good food in the freezer...7K generator. 12V batts....flounder lights, candles...and a beautiful wife

Buttoned down...hanging tight. Not scared. Will report.

Good work Pete :thumright:

Good morning.

Went outside. First thing I noticed was the noise. From the ocean, 1.5 miles away. Sounds like the Blue Angels when they're sitting on the tarmac.

Blowing around 40 steady now. Raining heavy, flash flood warnings. Power went out around 30 min. ago. Carolyn freaked.

Has just come back on. But sure don't expect it to last.

Have plenty of food and party supplies...."momma's drankin' liquor again"....
