What prop size?
« on: August 06, 2011, 04:46:09 PM »
Hiya,
Aqua XF200 & Johnny GT200, currently running a Stainless steel 141/2" x 19" max speed 32 knots dont know what revs - no Tacho. I just wondered what other people are running & what performance.

probably not going to get a whole lot of useful info from this post, a Tach is an essential gauge in determining optimum efficiency and speed, your engine could be running way under or over recommended RPM and you would never know?  You really should get a tach hooked up to her, then post speed and rpm at 3 or 4 intervals, especially Wide Open Throttle (WOT), then we can help you determine what the prop is doing with your rig??  Propping can be a painful and drawn out thing, I KNOW, been there, done that... Have a good one mate.

I have a 14.5" x 17" on my 200XF with a merc 200 on it.  I run 42mph at 5600 RPM.   I have bottom paint on mine so that is slowing me down about 3 mph.   You really need a tach to know what is going on.

This is my day out yesterday, I am still taking on a Lot of water I dont know whether it's though the transom bolts or the bait well drain fittings. What I do know is that after about 4 hours in the water, the boat becomes very heavy & when on the trailer after removing the drain plug i'm guessing but I would think about 20 gallons pours out

Your transom is different than mine.  Yours has a cut out for the motor.  What size shaft motor is that?   I noticed there is no rattles that can heard on the boat when you hit a wave.  Nice and solid just like my 200XF.   I saw some pie plate covers missing on the sides.  I doubt your getting water in those.   What about in the splashwell?  Do you have a hatch or pie plate access there?  My hatches were leaking letting water get into my bilge.  After I replaced them with better hatches my bilge stays bone dry.   Check to make sure your rub rail and hull deck seam is tight and has a good bead of caulk there.

judging from your video, sounds like the motor is having a hard time against a swell, sound like its too much of a load for the motor, like it dont have the strength...

choosing the right prop or troubleshooting a problem is impossible without a tach

although my boat is lighter, im still running a older outboard similar to yours i run a OMC Renegade small hub prop, 13.5x23p 4-blade. 4700 rpm she runs 50 mph, 55 mph at 5000 prm and ive seen 57 mph briefly with a strong tail wind. i spoke to Marcus at PowerTech Props, said for best all round performance, i should be running a 15x20p 4-blade.

first thing id do (besides install a tach) install a working auto float switch for your bilge pump...
