20ccp 97 200 yamaha saltwater perf question
« on: July 23, 2011, 08:46:37 AM »
Just finished rebuiding '84 20'CCP w/200 hp Yamaha that has a Stilletto 14.5X 19 prop on it.  Wide open throttle takes to 4400rpm.
Anyone have a similar set up that could give me what specs they are getting?  Think this engine should turn between 4500 & 5500 RPM's.  Ideas? Suggestions?
Also, can't seem to get clear images on the 997c-si hummingbird or Lowrance lcx104c. Seems to have engine backwash against transom at any speed.

You may have just hit on something. "Engine backwash on the transom at any speed". How low is you engine sitting relative to the bottom of the boat and where is the anticavitaion plate? 4400 is way to low for a 200 on a 20' with a 19P. Please forgive me for saying this but your not running a 25" motor on a 20" transom are you? I do not want to insult your intelligence but we need to start somewhere and I have seen it before.

The 200 CCP has a 25" transom, so unless it's been cut, you should be OK, assuming you have a 25" motor.  A 19 pitch prop should also be about right, but - as Fitz said - you should be running much better than 4400.  Check the motor height - you may need to move the motor up on the transom so the ventilation plate is even with the hull bottom.

Other considerations may be with the motor - is it carb or injected?  Check the carb linkage and make sure throttles are opening full and are correctly synchonized and balanced.  Also check the timing on the engine.

Checked plate and its 1/8" above boat bottom when you put a level on both.  (Have room to drop down two holes if I had to, but seems it should be close enough.)  Will check linkage, timing and put an test tach on it to be sure RPM's are totally accurate.  Thanks.

I am running the same outboard, carbed on my 222 FF. I have a 13.75x 17 stainless Yamaha prop. I turn 5500 w/o throttle. Had the same prop on previous engine which was a Yamaha 225 Exell. It turned the same numbers, Pops you out of the hole in a hurry. I believe I have the top engine bolts on the second hole down from the top.

are you running digital gauges to get your rpm info?

i run a carb'd pre-mix 1990 200hp Evinrude on a 200 osprey:
omc renegade 4-blade 13-1/2x 23p  spun 4900 rpm, 55 mph
mercury tempest 3-blade 14-5/8x 19p  spun 5300 rpm,  51 mph
mercury mirage 3-blade 14-3/4x 21p spun 5100 rpm, 49 mph

the mirage didint like to be trimmed out, hole-shot was great, along with cruise. the tempest liked any amount of trim, but had to play to find that sweet spot, hole-shot was great, mid-range was good, top-end was great. the renegade liked to be up on the surface, so-so hole-shot, good mid-range, excellent top end performance

I have a 200 Merc on my 200XF which is the same hull as your CCP.  I'm running a 14.5 x 17 and I get 5600 WOT and 42 MPH.  Keep in mind I have bottom paint and my XF is probably a tad heavier then your CCP.   I would think you should be getting 5,200 RPM WOT with that prop. I think your motor height is good, don't' go any lower!  Check your timing.
