I'm not a big fan of Miller Lite, but I am a fan of free beer. It all tastes the same after you're drunk anyway.

Nice digs!
So we finally see some pics of Scott's boat - guess it will not be there, but I'm sure the Owner will be!
I hope everybody in the Carolinas, Virginia (yes, you too!) and Georgia are making your plans to at Folly Beach on October 15. Here's a bonus worth a beer - who knows how Folly Beach got it's name?
OK, time for the Jeopardy Clock music:

See you there!

I didn't know, but you got me curious, so I read about it here-
http://www.follybeachrealestate.org/history.html
Pretty interesting history, aside from the name. According to the article, when the English first spotted Folly Island, it was "densely packed with trees and undergrowth", and "Folly" was the old English term for this.
I knew that Morris Island was originally called "Coffin Island" because so many of the casualties from the battles of the Civil War were buried there. But, Folly Island was also referred to as "Coffin Island" or "Coffin Land", but the buried dead on this island was due to sickness (Cholera). Ships coming into the harbor would unload their sick on this island to avoid being quarantined before making their way to the harbor. They would return days later, and pick up the sailors who hadn't yet died, but the ones that did die were buried right there on the beach. Seems like an all around efficient system to me ...

So I guess we shouldn't go digging around in the yard when we are there?
This is a link to the house we are renting. Halfway between the ramp and the marina. For anyone wanting to leave their boat at the marina its $1.50 per foot per night. Hey Jessie is there a ramp fee at that ramp by the bridge?
http://dunes.vrmreservations.com/vrmgr/ ... opdown.asp
Bridget and myself will be there on the night of the 13th if anybody wants to come by.

Unless they've changed it, there's no fee to use the ramp

Lew, thanks for the link! That place will get the job done
And thanks again for your and Bridgette's effort to secure it.
Now...all we need is John to fix up a batch or twelve of those "Life of the Party" Margaritas
I am going to go on Google Earth this afternoon and snoop around the place...see if I can find some fishing holes. Am also going to check out the channel markers, learn the channel to the inlet. And print everything up so all the captain's have copies. I'll number everything the same so we're "all on the same page"
Then I'll call some tackle shops down there and ask where they've been catching bait.
Have you guys thought any more about what we'd like to target?

Here's some maps of the area-
The "B" is the Beach House, "A" is the landing we'll use-
Folly River Bait & Tackle is nearby, so if we can't get some bait in a cast net (which I doubt will be a problem for Scott the cast-net master), we can always pick some up here-
Fishing here is a lot like fishing in NC; pretty much the same tactics you're used to using there. Catch bait when the water's low via a cast net- Mud Minnows, Finger Mullet, and Shrimp will be your best bet for catching reds. I've been having luck with all 3, with Live Shrimp seeming to produce more hook-ups than the others. The best way to catch Flounder is a slow retrieve with an artificial red head grub or a jig a white bucktail
These colors of grub tails are working best, gray (smoke) and "root beer"
Simple Cheap stuff you can pick up at Wal-Mart. Honestly, if you go to the high end bait shops like Haddrell's, they'll give you some secrets alright, but their secret will probably be "... you need to buy this $15 bag of Z-Man space age teflon coated polymer lures, and these $20 Titanium 18K Gold Plated Jig Heads if you want any real luck..."
Fishing here is pretty straightforward. Fish for Reds and Flounder on the Outgoing Tide, throw against shell-banks and where small creeks are dumping out into bigger creeks, try for flounder on the flats with a slow retrieve, on the incoming tide you can have better luck fishing for trout either by trolling or by casting live minnows against the marsh grass as you work your way down with the current. I'm pretty sure we got this
If the weather permits, I'd love to go offshore to the Lowcountry Anglers Reef. Simple bottom rigs with shrimp, squid, or strips of jelly-balls will produce. While bottom fishing, you can retrieve a Rapala type lure with another rod&reel if you want.
The best fishing to be had will be in the Wando River, and you'll notice that 90% of the threads on CharlestonFishing.com will be recent fishing trips in the Wando... and that's on the other side of Charleston in respect to where ya'll are staying. Not to say we wont have luck in the Stono River, but you can bet your Aquasport we'd have better luck in the Wando River. I'm honestly not sure why, but that's just how its always been here

Excellent!
Wasn't planning on buying anything from the turned-up Lacoste crowd...been to those pretty boy places, not into the lifestyle.
The idea was to stop by there and act dumb...yet interested in buying one of dem thirty dollar laminated fish maps...ax 'em to show me where on the map they've had success...Do they sell mud minnows...la-de-da.
Woops...gotta take this call...gotta run...be back, thanks, see-ya in the morning.
Should be no problem for them... gets done to me every day.
Pick my brain...no charge.

Boys, remember how we get flounder down here on the flats. Find a pothole or bare sandy bottom in the grass, throw to the edges, slow retrieve to bring them out from their ambush spots...pinched off half a shrimp works real good...
But then, you guys know this...

Thanks for the post Lew. That's all I need to see. They had a nice catch (if you scroll down...the entire forum did)... we can do just as well.
Creek fish are dark...inlet fish are light...they gave away their honey-holes by showing their catch. Going to the inlet creeks and creek mouths. Sand bottom.
Have been studying the Google Earth images.
Fried flounder guaranteed Saturday night, weather cooperating.
Gigging boat will be there...unless the forecast calls for pain.

Lew called, said that he has gone to the garage to work on glassing in a pad for his thru-hull...so he's asked that I let everyone know about the latest reunion developments.
He came home tonight to a big box on his front porch, addressed to his name, and "Aquasport Octoberfest Reunion."
He has received support products from Starbrite.
A case of Startron...quart bottles of Sea-Safe Boat Wash Concentrate...and quart bottles of Non-Skid Deck Cleaner and Protectant.
Excellent... Lew says that those of us that would like samples...he'll see us there.
Looking forward to meeting the Charleston folk...see ya there. We're coming down/up/over next week...so you guys that have said you'll be there (and thanks, we're looking forward to hanging out) please PM myself, Lew, Jessie, or CJ with your cell #'s. Thanks guys.
Great plan working...beginning Thursday evening, and continuing throughout the weekend.
Southeast Aquasport Octoberfest Reunion...see ya there
