Southeast Aquasport Octoberfest!
« on: July 20, 2011, 08:34:11 PM »
OK folks - by a big margin, it's October 15 in the Charleston area!

We will need some local folks to help find the gathering place - anybody up for that?

So mark October 15 on your calendar - and see you there!

More details to follow - gonna be fun!   :bounce:

Thanks for the legwork so far on this John  :salut:

My thinking is that this Fest would run much like last years in NC: We'd meet at a boat landing, fish, then find a semi-private place to drink, eat, and tell fishtales afterwards.   :drunken:

Fishing and producing seems to be the trickiest part, and which boat landing we choose to launch at will depend largely on what type of fishing we plan on doing.  I'm no Roland Martin, but there is a part-time guide that works with Pops at Key West that I'm trying to get chummy with.  I'm working on getting him and Dad in my boat or someone else's.  Hopefully this way we'll be sure to get some blood on the deck.   :pirat:

I'll update when I know more, but of course if anyone has any suggestions, please don't hesitate!    :bounce:

Looking forward to it

Alrighty then!

Hey Lew....you think they may have an "economic recovery special" on this joint?

http://www.vrbo.com/133262

This could be US! Scroll down, under "entertainment" it says " two jetted baths" and "jetted, HEATED" pool.

Well that doesn't sound quite right. When I say "US" I mean the group. No hard feelings, right?

Yeah, I called about that one. Four nights, tax , cleaning included is 2800 bucks. Yikes!!!!
I looked at some more and at this point we don't know how many people are going to show or if they are interested in splitting a place between us all. I hope Jessie can find us a place that fits our needs. I'll keep looking too! The good thing about the one you linked to is there is a marina next door. If nothing else we can meet there and head out for the day. Its only about 5 minutes away from the inlet and has slips you can rent. They have lots of parking for trailers but when I called them a couple of months ago the guy said their ramp sucks.

Anyway if you are interested in attending post back to this thread so we can see who all is thinking about it.

Alright Guys, and attending Gals-

I'm thinking that most of us will want to venture offshore, especially those of us with CCP's.  Just so you know, offshore conditions here are generally much worse than what we enjoyed in Southport...  So I'm trying to find places that will give us an option of convenient inshore fishing as well.  I've been looking at some homes in Isle of Palms, Folly Beach, and Charleston. There's a few homes to choose from, after narrowing it down to availability (I'm assuming check-in date with be the 14th), price point, and those homes which will allow pets, because I know Boo-Boo isn't going to miss the reunion

Here's what I've come up with:

Isle of Palms
Isle of Palms is close to the intracoastal waterway, which in itself has good inshore fishing, and Breach Inlet is very close by which flows right out to the Atlantic and a short run brings you to the Nearshore Reef

Marina Close by, a little expensive

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/82082.html?promoType=none
Cheaper, lots of parking, older home

Charleston
Really only found one listing- Marsh Front, Lots of Parking, Convenient to Remley's Point Boat Landing, which is on the mouth of the Wando River (which has the best Red-Fishing in the Charleston Area), almost directly underneath the Cooper River Bridge, so its a short trip to the Harbor / Offshore

Folly Beach
There's a Public Ramp right when you enter the town of Folly Beach, which puts in at Folly River and converges with the Stono River, good for inshore fishing, and only a few miles downriver you're in the Atlantic - a short run from here puts you on some healthy Artificial Reefs that I've dived on - saw plenty of fishes.

This is on the beach, and parking tends to be easy to find in Folly

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/12249.html?promoType=none
Plenty of parking, cheaper

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/61916.html?promoType=none
Nice, Cheap, not sure about parking

Let me know what you guys think.

We never tried the fancy camping down here - always stay on our boats.  You guys all have center consoles so no other option I guess.  Plus I guess the admirals like it that way - mine won't even come with me - "I'm not sitting around talking about boats for 2 days" - sometimes this is a good thing I guess
