Some WAY west coast fishing results
« on: July 18, 2011, 01:02:48 AM »
Boys and girls,
today we're gonna talk about why your mommies and daddies are lucky to live in....... well, not in California.... and why some nice places to live are in,  "J" ?? maybe you'd like to say a nice place.  That's right, J: Katy, Texas.  See, boys and girls - Katy, Texas, well, that's where the BIG fishies like to live.  JJ, can you say a nice place to live?? Very good JJ, Lower Alabama IS a nice fishin' hole - uh, I mean nice place for mommies and daddies to fish - er, I mean live.

Put the new Bennett Sport Tabs on the boat last week, went fishin' and the fish were jumping into the boat.
(The Sport Tabs are INCREDIBLE !!!! :salut:  :salut:  :salut:  :salut:  :salut:  :salut:)

Not big fish, mind you, and they don't fight much at all (they're really just kind of pathetic), and they aren't really that great table fare (they rate on the Inspiration Meter somewhere above salted cod and below farm raised talapia, which can be OK...).

But ya wanna know what?  These dopey California fish give me just the excuse to have a nice boat and go enjoy a nice day on the water with the Admiral...and that suites me right down to the ground.

These are a smack of rockfish. I'm pretty sure they're related to their more ornamental and poisonous cousins 'cause they sure hurt like blue blazes when them dern fins stick me good... I start getting all funny feeling and desperately dry mouthed, but then I just drink me a cold Coors and I am G2G till the next puncture.

This is a young Lingcod.  Big enough to eat, fights like a Chippiwa Lumberjack boot. Up the coast a'ways - in Anchorage - they get whopperish in size, approaching 100 pounds.  Anchorage is just beyond my fuel range, so I'm stuck with these lower 48 lings.

I hope you've enjoyed some fishing photos and don't forget how lucky you are to be fishing in....... ...in..in....well, in where ever the hell YOU are

Best wishes to you all, T

T,
Great job on your catches! At the end of the day, it was all about being in your boat, fishing with the admiral, testing the new M120's, and getting your hook wet! Great excuses to do it all again next weekend!

Nice haul there Mr. T.
We all try to make the best of where we happen to be.  The next two weeks I'll be trying to make the best of Anchorage, Alaska. Working, not fishing...

Excellent catch, T!  A little different than fishing out of Sebastian, huh?

SB4,
you are correct.  We were camping and fishing for blues down at Sebastian Inlet, long ago, and ended up with a 5 foot shark of some unknown manufacture.  Some guy traded us the use of his huge fillet knife and a couple pints of milk for a couple of fat steaks: he told us to soak our own steaks in the milk before we cooked 'em.  After we drank a few cool PBR's (still my favorite) we corn mealed and pan fried that fish on the Coleman.  That was pretty fancy eating.

JJ: think about bringing some mosquito repellent... I don't know if you've been there before, but I remember that skeeters were National Geograhic bad not far from Anchorage.  Let us know if that is the case, when you get up there.  And you're right, I am mostly joshin' about California.  It's just that I grew up in the Keys, and then later around the Space Coast, so because of that, the fishing here is just lame, in comparison.  But it is real, real pretty. Pebble Beach is just a 15 minute hump down the coast, then the Big Sur coast past that.  Few fishermen head that far, so it is pretty wild down there.  But let us know about the skeeters.

J: You are right, too, 215 Brother.  But what I would give to bring in a haul like in your photos.   :compress:  Actually, just to catch a 10 pound snapper that knows what it is about !!!

Now if and when the albacore show up in the next 60 days, then I will be singing a different tuna... pardon me for that one  :puker:

They are already working on a new state.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2 ... ornia.html

Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone is proposing that about a dozen counties break away from California to form the new "State of South California."

The split, Stone said Thursday, would allow officials in the new state to concentrate on securing borders, balancing budgets, improving schools and creating a vibrant economy.

"Our taxes are too high, our schools don't educate our children well enough, unions and other special interests have more clout in the Legislature than the general public," Stone said in a statement. "It has to change."

Stone suggested that Riverside, Imperial, San Diego, San Bernardino, Kings, Kern, Tulare, Inyo, Madera, Mariposa and Mono counties band together to form the new state.

Among the things the new state should consider, he said, are having a part-time Legislature, shifting more power to local governments and adopting a reasonable sales tax.

Stone said he will propose that Riverside County officials hold a public meeting at the Riverside Convention Center to hear thoughts and testimony from officials and members of the public.

"Are there challenges?" he asked about his proposal. "Absolutely. But the destruction of California has to stop and we don't know what we can accomplish unless we sit down and consider the possibilities.

JJ:  Oh, man.... don't even get me started on the politics of this state... :pukel:  :puker: .... suffice to say South California HERE I COME !!

Circle Hooked:  Thanks man, right on.  It was a great day....  and of course I should include the "one that got away".   With these geeky rockfish you don't find the need to really pay attention to your knot tying.   I guess I should.  Well, I hooked up to an extra heavy Whites Lumberjack boot down there and started hauling it up.  It had just come into view under the boat and it was a black and yellow spotted lingcod, and long, about as long as your leg.  All of sudden - SHIZZAM - the line breaks and away he goes back down, headin' for China.  I take a look at the end of the line and there is that stomach churning pigs tail - the knot slipped out.  Dern.  Serves me right for tying a poor knot.

Thanks guys, have a good one.

they are ugly.

I am in Anchorage this week and next.  I was hoping to go fishing but as slow as this job is going it's not going to happen.  Weather has been sucky too.  Highs in the 60's doesn't bother me but it's been raining and blowing except for today and the rain is supposed to be back tomorrow.  They are having a record run of red salmon.  People have been dipping up 100 to 150 fish in 1/2 day with dip nets (spawned out fish).

Not many skeeters here in town it seems.  I'm sure if one gets near the woods they will come out in force.  I don't know if I'll get to fish or not.  This job is not moving nearly as fast as it should.  I see ads in the paper for a guided trip and license for a caribou, bear, and wolf for $1900 but that ain't in the budget, especially since the wife called and said the AC had quit.

JJ,

Sounds like not so much fun so far...but if nothing else enjoy the cool weather. The heat will be waiting on you when you get home.

99 here in the shade today...heat index 116. Plus smoke. This fire has been burning since the end of June.

I'm rather embarrassed to tell you the temperature here... the sun was out most of the day (here in the summer it is more often foggy than sunny) and the temperature went up to 70. :sunny:

But, seeking redemption for my impudence, well, can I mention that I grew up in FL and spent many a hot and muggy day there?

Sorry I brought it up, T.
