I finally took a break from stuff I'm doing around the house and took the 170 out on Sunday - bad day to go out because the offshore races happened the same day.  We left out early with no problems and came back around 1pm - lot was packed.  Got the boat back on the trailer in a  few minutes, started out of the ramp area and hit a traffic snarl in the parking lot outside the ramp area - seems the popo was trying to get a ram 3500 plus trailer PLUS BOAT towed and there was 2 tow trucks there blocking traffic where I was sitting in line - lots of unhappy campers.
I smoked my buddy when I caught a flounder, 2 rat reds, a trout and a ladyfish to his big ZERO!!!  Was not his day, since he usually smokes me.

Damn, misery loves company huh!  :pale:

Scott, I think yours takes the cake in term of the amount of grief and misery. Sorry dude!
Marc will probably win the Costliest incident from the weekend.
Mine might be a close 2nd... Guessing $300 to the welder + gelcoat repair.

Jason, I am envious of both your catch and your fuel consumption numbers!  We ran about 50nm roundtrip, and burned 41 gallons!

Hey...we're a team!

Gotta like everyone's totally unique Fourth experience. Lew in the mountains (cool temps would be cool)   Or chillin' on a beautiful lake in sunny California...or catchin' jumbo snapper and nice kings on calm cobalt water 40 miles out  in Texas....or sitting at the house in Weeki Wachee with a great girl and a few beers ...or cleaning the yard...or hanging with the fam and enjoying life...or smoking your former icon fishing. Or on the flip-side....... banging your boat, or getting towed in,  an unhappy wife, a trashed finger (now in a splint), or your favorite MIA blue bluebird...

No one knows what the next day will hold. We'll take the good with the bad...fortunately the good most always outweighs the bad.

But hey and nevertheless...we're a team! Happy Fourth...and may God Bless America.

T,
She looks great (boat and wife)!  Like the fold-up backrest turning the engine box into an aft bench, sorta.  That wasn't part of the original I/O build.

seabob,
why, sir, I do declare: you too are a man of sublime good taste...and the Admiral remains your most admiring devotee....

Jason,
We all commend  :salut: your fishing prowess, and share with you the good memories made with your loved ones...
...man, that is one hell of 'a fish taco party at your place !!  :bounce:

Gran,
...it was all sadness and woe. I hope your nose-pickin' finger gets well real soon... and yes, God bless America, our home sweet home.

Best wishes to all, T

T,

Eloquently stated. Like your style.

Really wasn't a pick, more like a twitch that needed an itch. So, for formality's sake...we'll  refer to it hereafter as an an itch

And I guess mostly a moot point. Never was much good with my right hand anyway.

Anyhow...good post. Glad your admiral admires Seabob...he is definitely a man of sublime good taste 8)

Put in at turtle - 10th was closed due to the races.
The reds came in at 17 1/2" (keepers at 18), the flounder was a keeper at about 14 but I don't keep them until they get bigger - makes filleting them worth the trouble.  The trout was over 15 but I didn't keep it.  I tried to get my buddy to keep the lady fish but he wouldn't
It was just nice to be on the water and catching fish.

Scott - what a day!  Sorry to hear about all that - dang!    :x

I went out on Saturday, but it stormed on Sunday, so we stayed in.  The 4th is just too crazy and crowded for me to go out there.  We walked over to see the fireworks - which were awesome!   :thumleft:

Here are some pics from the Sandbar (also called Beachin' Island) that give you an idea - these are from Saturday, but there's a raft up here every weekend:

You guys crack me up!!  Scott, "sublime good taste" may be a bit over the top!  Although Natty Light does "taste good, sublimely" (little play on words there...)!  Scott, sorry about your blue bird, we have quite a few around here, between them and the finches, they definitely are little social creatures.  Interestingly enough, we have a red-headed woodpecker pair that have hollowed out the palm in the front yard (last I measured the hole, it was 4" in X 6" down!), Maggie hates that tree, but now I don't have to get rid of it because she doesn't want all Mister woodpecker's hard work to go for naught...

So where's Skoot and Jesse?  They are curiously missing from this conversation.  And Rick, doesn't that just piss you off when you run into a school of 17 1/2" reds?  It's like triplets to the nth power, everyone a twin (except for the spots) of the others!  And I know what you mean about flounders...although my Mom is an absolute expert at filleting them!

T, final shuttle launch, 11:26 AM this Friday.  End of an era, buddy.  When I worked for Martin-Marietta, our plant in Michoud, LA built the big main tank, so we had a close affinity to each and every launch.  In fact, my old boss quit for a while and went to work for Lockheed (Lockheed and Martin hadn't merged at that time) as the shuttle turnaround manager.  Got me some good tickets for a few launches, on-site...awesome experience that close!

See everybody around!! :thumleft:  :thumleft:

The 4th of July in Cape Coral can be fun.  I have gone to the fireworks on the river by boat in the past.  This year with tuesday being a workday, i know everyone will be racing home afterwards in the pitch black river, rude and drunk.  Seen it before, didnt give me a warm fuzzy feeling.
So, i went to a bar that had a view of the fireworks..not very exciting, but safer.

Amen Doc,

I've been doing the midnight ICW run after the fireworks going on 25 years and every year I think it will be my last one. I cant believe the incomptence and lack of courtesy by the majority of todays boaters. Running without lights at 30+mph, drunk with their children up on the bow. I used to just outrun them going back, but its too dangerous running 35+ mph at night. So this year I let the mad dash go ahead set the Mercs @1800 and did a comfortable fast idle and kept my crew happy. Pulled up to the ramp a little after 12:00 am and all the idiots were gone!
