Aquasport art file
« on: July 04, 2011, 08:31:44 PM »
While recently playing around with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, I isolated the Aquasport fish graphic and converted it to a vector file.  This is a jpeg screen capture of the image - I have it available in black and white in Adobe's .pdf and .ai formats if anyone would like a copy.  Being a vector file allows it to be scaled up or down without loss of resolution.

Good job.  I know how much work that is!    I'd love a copy of the vector art if you don't mind.  Thank You!

Any experts in Adobe Illustrator out there?  I've just been experimenting with a free trial on this graphic, and still trying to get accustomed to it - it's quite a bit different than my trusty old standby, Adobe Photoshop.

I added a little color to the image.  Adobe Illustrator has some difficulty tracing the color rendition, so unfortunately, while the black and white image enlarges many times and will stay sharp as a tack, this one starts showing problems at anything over about 300% magnification.

I think if I have time I'll try to separate the colors, trace the individual images and recombine them.  If anyone has any input on how to do that, please let me know.

Thanks,
John

John,
Talking with the wife, the colors have to be separated from the image.  In other words, any magnification, and the image will be fine, but the colors won't "follow" the image, as they themselves are separate images.  That what she says, hey, I can use PS in it's most rudimentary sense...

John, did you "paint" the original in Illustrator or PS?

I used Photoshop to add color layers to the original black and white image that I extracted and cleaned up from a photo.  I've been using PS to do any cleanup and alterations and then using AI live trace to test the vector file.  Separating the layers, making vector files of them and recombining for a single image sounds like what I need to do.  Just don't know how yet - I can do all sorts of neat things with PS, but I just started tinkering with AI   .

I've been playing with this when I have a little time here and there.  I just need to make sure I've got the right files and I'll send them on their way.  Have to head out right now - family duty calls.

John,
You should have an email with an AI attachment from maggie1104...

Open with Illustrator, import into PS, then enlarge.  See how it looks...

OK, I've had a little time to investigate Adobe Illustrator - it's gradually getting a little less frustrating.  This is a merged color image in vector format.  I didn't mention it before, but if you try to enlarge these screen capture jpeg files they will get very pixelated and jagged.  By contrast, the pdf file versions of these can be enlarged as much as you want and still remain tack sharp on all edges.

I'd like to hear from one of the site administrators to see if I can send the pdf files to be made available in the resources section.  If not, just PM me your email address and I'll send them.

Thanks for the email, Bob!   I couldn't make things work like I wanted, so I basically started over with my original files in Illustrator. I finally figured out how to manipulate and merge the imported images. Teaching this old dog new graphics tricks has been ummmm... interesting

So, John, what didn't work?  Could you import the AI file into PS and enlarge it with no pixelization?  Maggie want's to know, she put some work into that...
