74 22-2 pulls to the right
« on: July 01, 2011, 04:29:05 PM »
I have a '74 22-2 v-hull that pulls to the right (starboard) pretty hard. It has an '85 evinrude 140 that is mounted to the transom (original setup). The boat floats level at the dock and I was the only person in the boat while it was underway and standing in the center of the boat. the pull is while idling and at speed. Any suggestions to fixing this or even a mild correction to it?

Thanks
Chris

Adjust you adjustable skage on the motor. Its that part the hanges down in front of the prop. Under the cavatation plate. Just loosen the bolt and adjust it to the right adjust it a little at a time till the problem goes away. Alya, don’t for get to tighten the bolt after adjusting.

You may also want to play with your motor "trim" adjustment. If adjusting the torque tab doesn't give the result you are looking for, try varying your trim up/down position while underway. It's the motor, steering or factors effecting them that's causing the steering problem but not the hull itself (assuming the hull hasn't been modded).

What type steering helm/system are you running? Trim tabs? Rear bait wells?

Took the boat out on Monday for a quick cruise and it seems to track much better (straighter) after adjusting the skage. Thanks for the tip!
