Hardtop part number
« on: June 16, 2011, 11:31:14 AM »
Hello everybody,
I have been looking for a hardtop for a 215 Explorer that won't cost me Fort Knox. I found out in an
earlier posting that they were originally made for Aquasport by GG Schmidt in PA. I contacted them to see if maybe
they had an extra just lying around gathering dust.
They responded very quickly, but they are asking if I know the part number so they can research their inventory and
availability.
Does anybody know the original part number for this? Or where I can find it?
As always, thanks for the help.

I don't have what your looking for but I think you found a GREAT resource for other hardware for our boats.  Check out the seats page.  Some of those look familiar!  http://www.ggschmitt.com/

WT, yes he did!

You guys may remember a good while back during a leaning post/half post discussion we found another old firm out of Pennsylvania. Can't for the life of me remember their name, but they were BIG in FS mag in the 70's and early 80's. If I can get off the couch....

Wonder why that fine state had/has such a specialty marine presence?

This company has interesting products...Nice work cdd!

Charlie,
Did you talk with someone at the Lancaster, PA plant, or the Sarasota plant?  The Sarasota plant made our tops, that's the ticket right there...http://www.ggschmitt.com/

Call Sarasota on Monday.  If they appear clueless, let me know...

CB,
I gotta think that someone at the Sarasota plant who's been around long enough would have an easy time coming up with the P/N of the top, as it was the same top used on the WC 210 Coastal, and WC was still building them even though Genmar halted the AS brand...

Chances are they won't have one laying around, collecting dust.  The real key is whether they still have the jig that allows them to weld up the frame.  Theeeennnnn, you have to find a glass top for it.  IIRC, we molded our own tops at the factory...

Hi everyone.
Just to fill you in on what happened.
Once I contacted them about the part being made in the Sarasota plant, and it being the same one used for Wellcraft coastals,
they got back to me with a part number. I was told that they did not have any "in stock", but since they still had the jigs they
could make one up no problem. Here is a copy of the email they sent. I can't emphasize enough how impressed I was with their service! I am not going to buy the top (too pricey for my budget) but maybe somebody else could use this information.

Charlie,
The part number you are looking for is 2169-0503 HARDTOP,ALM 210CSTL/215EXPL 98.
We are still able to make this hardtop.  Price is $1700.00 for the aluminum frame only, we do not supply the glass top.
Leadtime is 4 weeks and the order would have to be prepaid by Visa or Mastercard.  This DOES NOT INCLUDE FREIGHT.  The frame would be sent LTL Collect by the carrier of your choice.  If you decide to order this part, Please call Nanette Smith @ 941-360-1967.
Sincerely,

Charlie,
That's excellent!  Now the key is to find a glass top that will fit.  I would seriously try Rob Wilhoit at The Boathaus in Sarasota.  Rob's a former WC guy like me, he has a LOT of WC/ASs old small parts molds, that's the first outfit I would try...

BTW, a hardtop option was around $5K in that era, IIRC...

Jim, No, I did not receive a reply,  I have not followed up as my search for a hardtop has taken a back seat.  I am glad to see that GG is able to make one for the 215 as stated in the previous post.  If they can due that then I am sure there is hope for our 225's  Next month I will most likely get my Hardtop interest going again.
