200 Osprey Live Well Leaking
« on: June 06, 2011, 05:09:33 PM »
As most of you know, the Livewell in the 200 Osprey is located under the front seat of the CC.   I understand and recognize that the live well should be in the back for all reasons; beat up, splashed around, etc...

However, I like my Todd cooler in the back because I can reach my beer while at a sand bar.  I like the live well up front because I always fish from standing on the front of my boat and I can keep one extra rod baited up and ready in case a Tarpon comes by.  I also like having the live well there for weight distribution.  My weight plus everything else keeps my scuppers under water.  If I had a live well in the back, it's weight I imagine would totally change the ride.

MY LIVE WELL LEAKS BADLY NOW!  My pump barely keeps up with it.  It needs a repair or replacement.

I tried calling Tommy @ Hammerhead to get a custom livewell installed in it's current place.  Before I could discuss our getting creative and all the reasons I was looking to do this, was virtually told I was a dumb :*: and the conversation was over.  Actually a very rude guy - I'll chalk it up to him having a bad day.

BUT I need to come up with a solution.  Has anyone done something like this before?

THANKS!!!

Hi, I own the same boat, My live well tub itself does not leak, but splashes over the top between the tub and the center console , like it has become separated. I don't know if this will work, but I had planned to fiberglass a new tub in from the top, under the seat, using the existing hole.  Hope the idea helps. Mike

Fiberglass wont work. The insert is polypropylene or some other type material and the resin doesn't bond to it. What I did with mine on the same boat was to foam the top edge and I have not had an issue since.

Thanks for the insight.

This leaking thing is really starting to get to me.  I guess I just have a hard time understanding why it would be so difficult to drop in a custom made live well and allow it to sit on the deck.

wes,

I'm not the guy to ask you this, because for a multitude of reasons I cannot post pics. But if you could post some pics, I think we can get this figured out :thumright:

Sounds like either of three ways to go...try and patch the plastic one, remove the old one and replace it with another poly unit, or replace it with a fiberglass tub.

Was looking online a few days ago at fiberglass livewells....there were a ton of inserts, cheap.

In theory, if the hull was beefy enough to support the water weight at that position, it shouldn't matter if the weight is sitting on the deck, or suspended in the air.

I totally agree with you!  Your theory is correct - there is more than enough "beef" to hold up the water.  As for a poly or fiberglass insert - it just seems like an easy solution.

My traveling for work has and will prevent my boating for another week or so - when I get her out from under the cover, I will snap some pics and post them.

It just really burns my butt the way the guy from Hammerhead handled it.  I would have paid cash upfront to have this done while I am traveling!!  grrrrr.

Call Jake at MCL and give him the dimensions of your current tank. They may have one there that'll work. Cheap :thumleft:

Tommy @ Hammerhead does good work and makes just about the best no obstruction livewell you can find out there. It took some time to get it as they are made to order and he has lots of boat rebuilds going on but it is exactly what I wanted. His 43gallon livewell is for guys who want to carry 500 plus happy white baits all day long. I was thrilled to find a livewell I can carry enough bait in to run a double charters without having to catch more bait between trips.

Make you front livewell your cooler with some foam and get a leaning post live well
just a thought.

Tommy's bedside manner can be, shall we say, abrupt...

We rented a terrific movie the other night, "A Social Network."

A story about a kid analytical genius who invented software to power what he called "My Facebook". Wasn't his idea. He stole the idea. Sorta an oxymoron, because he had no social aptitude at all.

It was really a pretty sad movie. In the end he had kazillions. But because one of his skill sets was way up here and the other way down there, he was incapable of giving or receiving love. He was/is the lonely Howard Hughes of his era.

We all have strong and weak points. The trick is to take a good hard truthful look at ourselves, identify weaknesses, and prioritize improvement there. Wish I'd realized all this twenty years ago. Maybe could have saved a marriage.

Anyway, I'm thinking fiberglass will be much better than polypropylene in the long run

Well Big Mike, I certainly would not have taken you for a Vanna

Totally different hair color/style

One must remember that "facebooks" existed before Zuckerberg got to college. He did, it appears, hack into Harvard's computer system and utilize information from their facebook for giggles.

The movie was very good and as an "enjoyer" of the art form I liked it but as far as being a "documentary" (which it certainly didn't advertise itself as) on that period of Zuckerberg's life, it did what Hollywood does best.

Entertains.  :thumright:

No one else is better at making a inept leader a hero (think Custer) but in this case they work the other side of the coin on Zuckerberg.
