What a day!! Sort of... PART II
« on: June 05, 2011, 01:21:30 PM »
Too worn out to post last night, so here are the pics from yesterday.  Left the house at 0400, in the pass and hooked up by 0445, and on the hook at 0530.  We didn't get out for opening day, it was like a shotgun start for a Kingfish tourney.  But that last trip with the big Mingo's we saw so many big red snapper.  We were hooking them on the bottom, but we got them chummed up near the surface for the big ones.  There was 5 of us on the boat, and we had our 10 by 0930 in the morning, and that was throwing some legal but smaller ones back.  Several super mingos, one scamp grouper, a white snapper, and a nice black snapper (he was up top also)  And we had to toss a nice AJ, (out of season) he was 45 inches, and took the starch out of my friend Ken, he was done for the rest of the morning   (the house of pain)All totaled we had around 100 Lbs of fish in the cooler.. And that is how the day started :thumright:

Then this is HOW THE DAY ENDED!!! :x   Not a very nice view.

Thank god I have the Boat US tow insurance....

Running back in from 18, everything purring like a kitten, then engine powered down, and alarm went off.  Shut it down, looked for anything unusual, engine heads normal to the touch, good water flow, sufficient oil...   but the computer wouldn't let me run it past about 2000 Rpms, and the alarm was going so, I shut it down.  Checked compression when we got home, 125 all six, so I didn't detonate the powerhead, even now, the next day, turn the key "ON" and after about 3 seconds the alarm goes off, like something in the ECM is faulting the engine even after 24 Hrs of sitting.  We'll see tomorrow, after getting her to the $hop.

Nice catch!!
Does your engine have a small internal oil reservoir?  My Yammy does and if it gets low the cpu tells the main reservoir to send over some oil.  If the level in the internal reservoir doesn't fill up, the engine protects itself by keeping under 2500rpm.  Something to check I guess. (Ended up being the cpu in mine)

Good job on the fish!  Hopefully the motor will be something simple.  Look at the bright side-you got to burn his gas coming in not yours

Let us know what the verdict is on the motor.

Yeah Rick, the engine tank is full, first thing I checked, the remote has about a 1/4 in it, but I'm thinking ECM... how much was that??

About a grand, but my motor is pretty old, newer ones could be more or less.

The general consensus on THT is water in fuel, there is a sensor on the bottom of the engine mounted clear filter bowl, and that would make sense that the alarm is constant even now 2 days later when I turn the key on. Gonna check that before heading to the shop.

Got it.... Bad.. ugh... terrible fuel.  As some on THT suggested, my HPDI on engine filter has a water sensing circuit in it, when I dumped it out this is what I got

This is new fuel with water in it for a comparison look

You can see the fuel on top of the bad sample, with the orange water laden fuel below it, a perfect division.  When I drained the racor bowl, I could have puked...  :puker: I know it has been a while since I drained the clear bowl on the racor but.... geez, this was nasty, there was even a frickin bee, sitting on top of the filter by the inlet holes  anyway, once the on engine filter was drained and refilled with fresh fuel, no more alarm.  Put new racor and bowl on there, primed with fresh fuel and she busted off like a champ, just have to replace the on engine filter tomorrow when I can get by the Yami dealer.  valuable lesson learned, and knowledge gained (the hard way) about the fuel system on these HPDIs.

I got that from letting my generator sit too long with old fuel in the tank.  Nasty smelling orange stuff.
