Colin,
Good Luck!  And, since you've spent some time in Spain, Buenos Suerte!  Via con Dios en la agua!!

BTW, my wife Maggie was born in London, in a lower class neighborhood that is now an industrial district, Clapham Common.  American GI, London girl.  Ever hear of it?

Thanks for the sentiment! he must have been watching over me!
we lauched with no trouble except getting the inside of the Pajero a little moist. I was a little alarmed when I saw air bubbles rising from under the bow as she slipped in, but I then thought maybe that was the trailer frame filling up.
With a friend holding the bow line I dropped the engine & started it - no troubles yet. We boarded & headed out of the harbour at about 4 knots & as we cleared the harbour wall & out into the Estuary. I opened up the throttle & away we went........ well for about 30 seconds then the engine died! ........... so there we were bobbing around in the Thames/North Sea with no power. I dropped anchor (there was about 4-5 knot rip) so that we didn't drift. About 20 mins. of engine diagnostics later, we realised that there was water in the fuel. We cleared out the filter, pumped the milky liquid through the line until clear gas was flowing, after several attemts the engine fired up & continued to tick over for about 10 minutes We decided that all should be ok now (Remember the boat had been standing unused for about 18 months before I bought her)
So off we went for another 30 seconds ......... same thing happened, now armed with the knowledge gained the first time, we went straight to the problem, sure enough .... water in the fuel!! We repeated the previous procedure & headed back to harbour at about 5 knots .... all the way no trouble.
lifted her back onto the trailer, had a couple of beers & headed home. Back in my garden, I jacked the boat up as far as I could & opened the drain plug, I removed about 12 gallons of water, some of it was a murky brown, I figured that was water from being left standing for so long uncovered. I'm now concerned that if there is water in the fuel tank how did it get there? and b) is the hull leaking? I'm just about to take up the centre floor panel & have a look.
BY THE WAY - Clapham Common is now a very sought after area of South London - EXPENSIVE properties (mostly north side of the common) less expensive south side. I go through Clapham at lease two or three times a month

Well, that didn't take as long as i'd anticipated. Took out the seats & pedestals, removed all the screws & cut around the seal, lifted out the centre panel & BEHOLD! ......... its full of gloop & water!
There are several places I noted where it could be entering the tank well, fuel filler tube, fuel breather tube, fuel line to splashwell, transom holes for steering/throttle lines & electrics. but how did the WATER GET INTO THE TANK?
I've taken some pics but I cant find the lead to connect the camera to the laptop, when I do i'll put them up. :puker:

Just thinking quickly, surely the tank well should have a drain hole through to the bilge where any water would be taken out by the bilge pump!

Sure enough, there is a hole (mine was blocked) All in all, i've drained a good 20 gallons of water out of the boat since i got back yesterday. Plus what I had already drained out when I first got the boat, I wonder how much of it was rainwater?
Well i'm going to replace the centre panel plywood, clean out the tank well, fix all the possible leaky holes & put her back in next Saturday, we'll see then I guess. I think I will seal the splashwell/bilge access caps too!.

And I still can't figure how water got in the fuel, and how I get it out (gas is very expensive here and there's about 70 litres in there) it costs £1.40 a litre!

Colin,
Thanks for the tidbit on Clapham Common!  Just told Maggie, now she has a big head!!!  No, she knows that things do change, she says after the war the area kind of went south, if you know what I mean, but, as they say, what's old becomes new again...

I'm sure you realize you have quite an undertaking in dealing with the fuel issues you've been having.  There are a bunch of threads here, as well as a ton over on THT.  Good Luck!  BTW, very kind of you to post on the weekend that commemorates our country's independence from your country...and we end up, over the years, to be the strongest allies on the face of the Earth!  We salute you and your countrymen, as well as I'm sure you do us... :thumleft:  :thumleft:

Strongest allies? most certainly, if you hadn't joint in when you did we would now be speaking German!
Do we salute you? - YES SIR!  :salut:

Hi Circle Hooked, do you know what? I don't know, I just buy "unleaded" from the gas station, I think it's 97 RON whatever that means. I think it must be to do with the "explosiveness" for want of a better word.

We apparently have up to 5% ethanol blended into our fuel.

Hi Denis,
Not a problem at all, it would be nice to help if I can, I'm always working in and around London, We're doing some work at the Aldwych (Theatreland, right next to Drury Lane etc.) but I live 3 miles from Canterbury in Kent there's lots to see here too!
