I'm new to Classic Aquasport.com. It's a great resource.  

I'm only two weeks into restoring a 1974 22-2, so not much to share at this point.  You can see some before pictures and some work-in-progress pictures below, just follow the link.  I've removed the fuel tank, center console, wiring, hardware and deck.  I've done the work so far with friends, and had some help from the guys at Custom Boat Renovations in Charleston. Custom Boat is doing the restoration, and I hope to be as involved in the work as possible. Their skill and my sweat.

Advice is welcome.

What do you plan to do?  I would guess you don't have to do a transom (assuming you're keeping it inboard) and the stringers look (superficially) to be sound.  What's the situation?

My plan is to pull the inboard and replace the deck.  I'll put an outboard on a bracket off the transom. Install a center console, t-top, build a bench along the transom, and put in as much storage as I can.

The stringers are rock hard. And by my inexperienced eye, beefy. They are more than a foot wide at the base and more than half a foot wide at the top. And the hull and stringers seem dry throughout.

I've other issues to think through. If anyone has advice, I'd welcome it.  If the stringer foam is dry, should I give them another layer of glass and leave them, or still replace?  And I'm wondering how shifting weight from the middle of the boat to the stern of the boat might affect its ride? Reason for the shift is the inboard is coming out and the outboard will be off the transom.

A lot of guys run brackets on them, but I would limit the length of the bracket as much as possible.  I don't think you'll have any major problems.  Where are you placing the fuel tank (sorry if you mentioned it already)?  I would place under the floor as far forward as possible, it will help your weight issue.

Pay careful attention to where your stringers are attached to the hull - that's where they typically have issues.

It is cool. My kids seem to like it the most.  But no, I don't plan to keep it on the boat.  One reason is that it is likely too tall at high tide for a bridge I pass under at my neighborhood ramp.  I hope to sell it, as you can see above.

Thanks for the tip on both.  When the time comes, I will post some pics on the tank position and transom.  I'm thinking about moving the center console and t-top a bit forward, too. Not much, but just to have more forward weight.

Looks like she was originally an outboard model converted to an inboard. Never seen that before.

Do believe Fitz made a good observation. After looking at your new pics...

The inside transom where the tank was removed still shows the cut-out for a single OB. Where the inboard motor is now mounted is where the original fuel tank went...note the cut-outs in the starboard stringer for the gas fill and rigging chase.

Makes not a bit of difference as far as the rebuild...its all coming out anyway. ...just pretty interesting the inventiveness of a previous owner.

Money saving idea....take that old tank (and motor?) to the metal yard and cash it out.

Look at the transom view looking back from the engine. The transom shows signs of an outboard model. The boats weren't converted from outboard to inboard originally. they were built with a full transom for IB's or IO's or for outboards.

I wonder if the cut transom was filled at the factory. I think that because the hardware, swim platform, stern light, deck hatches and everything else match old pictures of IBs I found here on Classic Aquasport.  Whoever did the rebuild/repower, matched the factory product perfectly.
