Thought you guys might want to see a bit of "Overkill"...even considering a 7:1 scope...

Bob...that was GREAT!!

Maybe you should buy him one of those big soap tanks and cut it in half?

Carry it in a dinghy
If you get a great anchor (like the plow I have) I think you can cut the ratio down a bit but then again, I'm on the gulf side....

Rick,
The owner lives in Clermont (used to be a tiny town) just west of Orlando on 50.  Basically half way in between Canaveral and here, Hernando Beach.  So he has a 1 hour trip, either way, depending on his fishing wants/needs.  But at a 7 to 1 scope, he could anchor in 150' and still have the swing...

Pete, no windlass, he was contemplating adding a windlass pre-wire, but he's kinda on a budget, and the extra cost of the 4GA made him think otherwise...

I coiled it back up today, but I'm sure as hell not going to stuff it back in that locker!

Mike,
Our lot is 400' deep, 200' across.  Our kitty corner neighbor across the street, their house is an easy 500' from our road...I think the rode, single file, would reach their house...

JD,
While coiling that rode up, I was thinking the exact same thing...

Scott,
Takes me 3 1/2 beers to mow it! And 1 1/2 gallons of gas.  Getting a little pricey...

Random thoughts....

Wasn't kidding about the soap container. A friend took a 55 gallon roto-molded soap container, cut it in half, put some rope handles on it. ....thats where he keeps his rope when he goes grouper fishing. ...nice and easy, sits on the front deck, easy to work.

He has about 900 feet of rode. He has it in 300 foot sections. They can all be shackled together. 600 feet is about the max he'll use.

I can't picture this soap container, but I cut the top half off a 5-gal bucket, and it slides nicely in my anchor locker.  Works well to coil my rode inside. (Of course I only have about 250 feet, not 1200...)

Mike, I shoulda been more specific....it is one of those industrial "Chem-tainers"....looks just like a 55 gallon steel drum, same size and everything, but is made of poly.

Some places will give them to you, but you'll see them for sale at flea-markets, ma-pa hardware stores etc., 20 bucks or so. Cut them off to about 30 inches, add the handles...you're set. Lightweight, strong, won't stain the deck.

I have a mile (actually 5,000 feet) of 3/16" aircraft cable I got at a surplus sale for $5.  I've thought about using it as anchor rode...

Anybody need some cable?  Give me a call!   :thumleft:
