Some of the most famous restaurants in the world are there.

Alphabetically, from a cookbook purchased in 1979:

Acme Oyster Bar, Andrew Jackson, Brennan's, Broussard's, Cafe Dumonde, Commander's Palace, Court of Two Sisters, Desire Oyster Bar, Galatoire's, La Louisiane, La Normandie, Le Petit, Le Ruth's, Louis XVI, Masson's, T. Pittari's, Versailles.

Not to mention Emiril's and Prudhomme's.

Check the net...can't go wrong with the first list....Bon Appetit'!!

ALL kinds of fun to be had in 'Nawlins!     Oh wait, did you say you're bringing your wife?!?

Been there just once, and theres so many cool historical places to eat, I couldn't even narrow it down.   But Scott mentioned a few good ones.

Then there's Bourbon Street.  Gotta go check that out, at least once in your lifetime.  Come to think of it, once is probably enough, unless you're 22, single, and a party animal!

Commanders Palace is stll the best IMHO - you'll spend some $$ there - but it's worth it.  After that, lots of other choices, but not on Bourbon Street - that place is for doing the par-tay thing!  Not much bad food in NawOleans tho...

If you enjoy Good food and Great Beers, check this place out.  We have eaten there a few times on our travels over there, outstanding authentic New Orleans fare.

Been there plenty of times and love the place.

I have one suggestion for breakfast at least one morning- Cafe dumond, get a large order of beniets (spelling?) a cup of coffee and enjoy,

Second suggestion is  for lunch-  one day for lunch go to central grocery 923 Decatur St, just down the street from the main tourist area and get a muffulata, then walk across the road to the river, sit on the bank and enjoy it.  Many places sell them, but city grocers is by far the best.  One sandwich feeds two easy and is it good.

Enjoy either of these unique NOLA experiences ans you will want to return
My wife and i are thinking of going again soon.

i been there once are twice , if you want the real good food go around the corner from bourbon st.
try anything on st. charles. there are so many hole in the wall places that will rock your taste buds in the french quarter.
when are you planning to be in LA (louisiana). lol

Best breakfast I have ever had: Eggs Sardou at the Coffee Pot.  Highly recommend it... along with a "Bloody Gary" (a double bloody mary).  Ask for Willimena, she's worked there for almost twenty years.

Johnny White's is my perennial favorite for drinks.  It's a cheap hole in the wall with stiff drinks open 24/7.

hopefully the river wont cause to many probs for your trip. i dont think the river boats will be running with the river cresting on the 23rd.
