Now that I have an idea as to how to remove the wheel, I have a question.

Already checked the hydraulic lines to/from my 200 Evinrude Ocean Pro on my 21.5 Aqua Explorer.  Don't seem to be leaking, bent, etc...

The wheel is just spinning freely, left and right.  What may this be?

Can you see if the key is still on the shaft, if it has moved or fallen out the wheel would free spin..A second thing to look at would be if the helm is low on fluid, lines might have fluid in them but if the helm is to low it will not turn the engine. Hope this helps :thumright:

Im following everyone's advise and I did get the wheel of my 21.5 Explorer.  By myself.  Lots of WD40, 2by and a hammer.  Now that it is off, what do I do?  It appears to be the power steering reservoir.  It's empty and I hear some clanking sound when I turn the mounting stud.    Where do I go from here?

FYI - the motor won't turn left or right, even manually.

While it's apart, start here.

Add this.

When finished, do this as per item #4.

If the motor won't move, read all items shown on the Teleflex site. You may need to address steering tube problems on the outboard as well.

Resource forum is your friend.

Good luck.

Louie, that sounds like a bad check valve inside the helm pump.  Here's an excellent "how to" on THT (with pics!!) on re-building the helm.  http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-for ... -pics.html

Save it from DT when he used it.
It's in our Resource forum. Makes for an easier find.

Thanks DT. :thumleft:
