A-LO-HA Shipmates
« on: April 21, 2011, 11:14:13 PM »
Getting underway at 0-Dark-thirty tomorrow.  Pensacola to Atlanta, Atlanta to Hawaii  :silent:  That is going to be one very long ride, the admiral and our daughter (who has never been on a plane) think this is really cool, I have my opinion, but we'll keep that for the other end after they hand out the hot wash clothes a few times to bring you back to reality

Hopefully will have lots of pics with me whoopin a big Ol' Wahoo or Yellowfin  Probably check in a few times, ya'll have fun...  :thumright:

Non-stop from Atlanta?  Whoa, that is a hike...I thought Tampa to LA (that's Los Angeles, not Louisiana) was a PITA...

Have fun, post some pics, look up my friend Korey Yoshikami while you're there... :salut:  :salut:

Marc,

I was gonna drop something in the mail to you tomorrow, but I'll hold off for a few days since you're taking a trip.

1st time on a plane and it's ATL-Hawaii??? Wow, is she in for a surprise!  My wife was fit to be tied on her first transatlantic flight (Nonstop from Ft. Myers to Dusseldorf, Germany.  10 hours on the return trip).  So, I can empathize with you!  Have a great time, I want to get there eventually.  :thumright:

Try non-stop from Atlanta to Tokyo (middle seat coach) damn 747's can haul some fuel! plus 4 hours to Beijing total flight time 23 hours. Atleast you are going to Hawaii not work! I'm sure Gonefission has a better one than that. I wonder what the longest non stop leg is?

I know the longest trip I took was 33 hrs door-to-door to Bangkok - was not non-stop though.
17hrs non-stop to Sydney, Australia from LA was another long one for me.

Well, having a great time over here.  The flight over was not bad, that was the biggest passenger aircraft I have ever flown on.  2 seats on each side with 5 in the middle, tv screen in the back of the seat in front of you, with all kinds of entertainment options, movies, games music etc... That really made the time go by a lot faster.  Weather is great, went snorkeling over in Honolulu at the Hale Koa Hotel yesterday.  Planning some snorkeling in shark's cove today.  Tuesday is the sportfishing trip on the "Whipsaw" a 35' Cabo, http://whipsawsportfishing.com/  and hopefully Tuesday evening will be the best fish fry and Ahi steaks on the grill.

SeaBob, Called Korey yesterday, he lives about 10 minutes from the Marine Base where we are staying (Koneoah Bay) so maybe go over to his place next week in the afternoon for a cold one.  Ya'll take it easy

Made it back, WOW!! that 13 Hr trip has wiped me out, left Honolulu at 1630 Fiday afternoon and got into Pensacola at 1130 this morning (Sat) I couldn't really sleep on the plane much and our family looks like a bunch of wandering zombies.  Trying to stay awake as much as possible and then crash hard tonight to try and get back on track.  Lots of pics to share, great underwater stuff, my $1K charter turned into a 10 Hr puke fest for a couple of the guys with me, 6-7 Ft seas ZERO fish, I was pissed, one knock down on the center line near the end of the day, but the mate was too slow getting to the reel for a drop back, probably a bill fish smacked it.  I knew we were in for it when the mate ( a young kid) asked me if I knew how to rig a Ballyhoo "cause we don't use them much over here, but we're starting to"  WHAT!!! he used big old bailing wire, mid body to twist the hook to the fish, and then at the head, all crushed down, twisted and clipped, then up inside the skirt lure, the hoo probably blew out the first 5 minutes in the water.  I asked if they ever heard of rigging springs and single strand wire?? Huh?? The one guy with us, stationed over there, he's a coast guard 130 pilot, he was spewing for about 8 hours, poor SOB, I felt sorry for him, spend all that money, no fish and feel like you want someone to shoot you.. Lesson learned.  Never did get up with SeaBob's friend (Korey) over there, for those of you who have taken the family vacation and the admiral has an hour-by-hour, day-by-day schedule planned out, I don't need to say much more about venturing beyond the "established parameters" of said vacation schedule  :salut: But all in all, we had a great time, the weather was great, and we're back home.... so it goes down in the log as successful  Here is one of the places we went snorkeling "Hunama Bay" Georgeous!! More later

Sounds like a great time, Marc!  I'm jealous of all parts except the voyage from hell aboard the SS Minnow. Yuck!

Be sure to throw up some more pics when you get a chance!

Welcome home Marc! Glad you had a good time, with the exception of the "fishing" trip.

Bought the T shirt on everything planned out....

Looking forward to the pics!
