OMG can any one figure this one out,
« on: April 15, 2011, 05:05:50 PM »
Hey fella's I am still sanding on the ole gal and was wondering from you Ole salts, I am going  to have to change the Motor mounts and a Oil line on the Salty Wench II, What I was hoping if I can get the picture posted on here It looks like who ever had the boat prior had to cut a hole on both sides of the boat to get to the front Motor Mount ? I am not sure ? I know one of the Patches came from where the exaust came out on sides and he moved them to the rear ,
Cause I cant figure out how to gain access to change it, I dont know what motors came originaly with her but shes got thesse Big OlE 502's in her now and its snugg as a Turtles Pecker in there ? I just tried to Put one picture on there showing Strbrd side I think the whole album got linked

OK,
Let me see if I understand this.

1. You want to know how to access the motor mounts on this model Aqua so you can remove/repair/ replace them?
2. Is it necessary to gain access through the sides of the hull to complete same?

Am I warm?

Hawg Hunter,

I looked at your pics in the photobucket album and noticed one thing. You are wearing the blue color suit, that is a chemical suit which is a fully contained, thick layer suit, not designed to breath at all. If you purchase the white painting suits they are designed to breath and they wont make your nuggets sweat off!!! Plus, the white suits are about 3-4 dollars cheaper. I know this because I learned the hard way. I always used the white ones, then recently bought a blue one and literally overheated in it, had to stop working because I thought I was going to pass out. Just a thought buddy.

Hey Capt Bob, I was wondering why there is a foward patch on the side Hull I know the patch closer to stern is where he had patched where the Exaust were located,

I am going to have to change the Motor Mounts Due there almost rusted through , I have No clue how to get to the foward Mounts On lft and right motors.
Thats why I was Asking if you guys thought that the privious owner may have cut those holes in on the sides to gain access to those locations ?
 Sorry That its confusing

That's exactly what I thought you asked. Seems like a strange way to access the mounts but who knows. I don't have any experience with any craft of that size so hopefully someone will know. We used to have a few members with that (or similar) model. Maybe they will chime in.

Since the engines have been replaced; someone figured it out. Maybe a partial deck removal to gain access to the engine bay. You have to disconnect the engine mounts to extract the engines and the engines sure did not come in from the side!

looks like someone was a little too lazy to remove the exhaust manifolds to gain a little bit more access to the motor mounts from the top side...

I am not familiar with the marine set-up in your boat, but I am with the 502 cid motor.  In the past when I have worked on boat motors like this, they used the same mounts as cars.  It this is true in your application as well, there should be a bolt in the center of the mount holding the mounts together.  Pull the bolts and lift the motor out.

Please remember, I have not worked on your boat, this is just from experience.  I would first remove the exhaust manifolds for clearance though.

Hawg Hunter,
Can't really make out the 2 separate patches on the hull and I suppose it's possible they tried to access the forward mounts that way although seems a bit extreme to me and not all that accessible anyway. When we did my repower the new Crusader 5.7's had to be moved aft almost a foot to make up for the different configuration of the engines and tranny's from the original Volvo engines. This left me with almost 16 inches from the front bulkhead to the motors which made access to the forward mounts not a huge problem. From the looks of some of your pics you'll probably have to remove the exhaust manifolds and even then find a really small and flexible friend to get in there.Good luck with the refit. You'll have a great boat when you're done.

From the pics it appears you bought the boat from a guy at Alligator Point, or is that you and where you keep the boat???

Most boats that size that had bank loans were documented vessels.I know if a vessel is currently documented it's possible to track down the owner on the internet. Not sure if you can track down former owners based on documentation.Check the coast guard documentation website or do a search on THT.There's been a bunch of stuff written about this over there.
