The year of my boat???
« on: March 30, 2011, 11:52:50 PM »
I just purchased my 1st Aquasport!  It is a 19-6 open fisherman.  The seller told me it was a 1971 and the boat did not come with much paperwork.  Once I got it home and found the old registration it says it is a 1972.  It does not have a HIN # on the hull so I am sure it is not a 1973, I believe that was the date the manufacturers were required to permanently stamp the HIN # on the hull.  There is a plate on the inside of the stern on the port side with the serial # (E107) and the other nameplate data.

I am not too concerned whether it is a 71 or 72, but more so if there were many changes to the model years and how they would affect my working on the boat and getting parts.

Also, this boat does not have a bow rail and I believe these model years came with one as standard equipment.  I am up in MA and was wondering if anyone knows of someone who could make one to fit?

This is my 1st ocean boat so I will be posting with many more questions.

Thank you.

Hey Willhuntforfood,

Definately a 1972 12 degree V bottom. First year of the modified V. Looks like she still has the original teak rod racks. 1972 was the first year that the law required the hull ID be molded into the transom. Usually the upper port side of the transom exterior, underneath the rubrail. Your boat may have been manufactured in 71' as a early 72' model and had the old style ID plate or the transom was rebuilt and the hull numbers were removed during the rework. Your transom does look original though. There are no parts for these boat anymore. You either have to make them or buy used. How is the floor, transom and hatch covers? Any soft spots or major cracking? Has the gas tank been replaced? These were great boats and a number of members own them. Check out the photo gallery and resource forum for pictures and information about your hull.

Welcome to the clan! You will get all the help you need to get her water ready...

Welcome aboard Tim  :!:  :!:
Nice looking boat  8)
First thing that caught my eye is that the badge is not original, looks like someone painted it on or a decal was made for it?  The originals were a plastic type, riveted on and would have had 196 or 19-6 as part of it.  The rubrail looks original and could be the cherished green one.
My '71 170 has a 12 degree deadrise on it but don't know too much about the 196 and when it started - before that it was a 191, which your's is definitely not.
Take some more pics of the interior for us, like the console, the casting deck and the rubrail too.
As fitz said, check out what we have in the photo gallery.

Welcome aboard.

This makes me wonder if my boat is actually a 1973 or a 72' model.  Mine did not have a HIN on the transom either, the only number I could find on the boat was the green riveted plate on the inside of the transom, reading "E190".  E190 is the HIN I have the boat registered under as the orginal title was lost- Uncle told me the boat was a 73', so that's what I went with.

I dont know if the law was inacted for Calender 72' or model year 72' which would have been August 1971 which was the historical product launch for boats and automobiles for the next model year.

Hello everyone,

Thank you all for the responses!  Seeing I have a foot of snow coming tomorrow I will post some more pics this weekend.  I do have 3 of the interior I will put up now.

fitz73222
Those are teak rod holders and it also has the teak beverage holders on the console.  The fuel tank was replaced last year as the original tank was seeping from the top so when it was full, it would weep.  The deck and hatch covers all seem to be sound with no soft spots.  There is a small crack on the interior side of the top of the transom directly under the outboard.  From looking on this site, it might be a cap of the transom, I will post some pics of this as well.

RickK
You are correct, the previous owner did put the decal on.  The rub rails are green and may be original, I will post more pictures of it as well.

Thanks again for all your help and I will be definitely will be posting more as we look forward to a fun summer on the water!

Welcome Aboard Tim(?) :salut:

Since you have a highly coveted green rub rail, here's a link you might find interesting as you're cleaning the old gal up.

Welcome to our merry band, Willhunt!!

You have a honey-pie. Should you want the original plastic badges, check the Resource Forum, author "Flkeysaqua". They look good, he'll send them to you.

Thanks imonna,

Nice looking boat!  I like the look of the solid gunwales and the rail!  Is that front bimini original or new?

Too nice to be new.  I dont know when the previous owner got it, but its probably not more than 5 years old (or really well taken care off)

Heres a pic of it up when I first got it.

I saw your boat being advertised a few months back ( I recognize some of the pics).  Its awsome.

I like the looks of that.  Do you have any more info on it?

This is a CT boat so you probably saw it on craigslist.  I got it from a guy who does work for me, sort of stumbled on to it.  I am psyched to get her on the water!  Looking to do some striper fishing off Monomoy Island off Chatham on the Cape.
