Recommendations?

Get her inside, let her dry out, let her set up.

Good morning LA Customs,

Nice project boat!
If you are negotiating price; looking at her level neglect and assume the worst.
1) Fuel system probably in bad shape; old gas, bad fuel lines possible tank replacement if its original, new water separator $1000 doing it yourself.

2) Engine; if you plan on resurrecting the engine assume carburators need rebuilding, water pump, thermostats, gearoil. Check the steering cable for stiffness and binding. Do a compression test, check for water in the gearcase, pull the propeller and make sure its not stuck, look for fishing line on the propshaft to see if the seal is damaged. Check the power trim system to see if it works look for leaks. $500+ to get it running with a lot of assumptions.

3) Batteries; replace $200

4) Trailer; wheel bearings, tires, brackets, rollers, bunks, winch cable $650 assuming the trailer frame is solid.

5) General hull condition; bottom paint usually means wet foam in the stringer boxes, soft spots in the floor, soggy transom; see how much movement the engine has on the transom when you apply force to the gearcase with the engine tilted up. In a perfect world no movement is best, if its more than 3/8" a transom is in her future but still may be usable for a year or two. This is where the big bucks come into view if any of the above conditions exist. $5000+

6) Mold and Mildew spells neglect but she may clean up and be a gem.  If it will roll out of the field with a little bit of trailer work, $0-$2500 sell max.

Boy is there a wide open definition of what a rebuild is! 2 pistons, some gaskets and seals is not a rebuild. Don't even consider it without the itemized receipts about what was done. If the powerhead wasn't fogged before it went into "storage" that powerhead could be full of rust or other forms of corrosion. Chances are the VRO oiling system has been bypassed leaving to more speculation about the condition. Just trying to paint a realistic picture of where the gremlins may be hiding.

I see one red flag on the engine view... Looks like pretty substantial support plating on the transom; nice job however. Still indicates a need for some transom work. I don't think this is give her a bath and go by any means like Lewis' was. I see trim plates; if they are Bennetts they probably still work. Looks like a $1000 boat to me if the trailer rolls. I don't think I've ever seen a rebuild on a WAC. Perhaps you can be the first! I started one on a 24' Sportcraft WAC about 15 years ago and actually got the entire cap and inner liner out with a few cuts here and there. The epoxy bond to the stringers was poor so with the help of some oak trees, timbers and two come-a-longs she came apart in one piece. Is this boat still in Florida by it's registration?

If anyone is interested I'll stop by and get the guy's phone #.
