215 DC (1998) Fuel tank venting problem

Since new, I have experienced a problem with refueling my 1998 215DC at the fuel dock.  When fueling is started, gas will spit back after a few gallons. Thiis happens even if I go very slowly. This will continue until I apply one of these ratheer inconvenient remedies:  First, if I move passengers to the port side (opposit side from filler with integrated vent) the vent will release trapped air pressure and begin to vent.  Sometimes I can rock the boat from side to side and the vent will work. I have replace the integrated filler/vent and the problem continues.

Does anyone have an easy remidy for this?

is the vent line plugged or kinked in any way?Mud daubers? Ethanol deterioration? :scratch:

I would guess the fill and the vent hose have a "belly" in them.  They drop down from the fill, but then have to rise up to the tank.  Lot's of air gets trapped in there, and, with the air in the tank...

Under your deck plate to your fuel tank should be both the fill and vent hoses. Unscrew the clamp from the vent hose and blow through it, or attach a shop vac to blow through it. With someone at the fuel fill you should be able to tell if the line is clear. Since it's been happening since it was new, it's probably a kink. On my 2004 215 DC, I had to remove the port wall panel on the inside of the port console to access the other end of the fill and vent hoses during an inspection.

At your fill there shouild be a small cap for the vent line. Pop it out with some needle nose pliers.  It just snaps in. Is easy.

Mine has gotten clogged before..

I am not sure that I was clear.  My fill cap is integrated so it contains a line for filling the tank and a smaller line to vent air.  There is only one cap.  Going back to day one, the vent has not worked properly.  The only solution that breaks the air lock is to rock the boat (side to side) or put two or three people on the opposit gunwall.
