Lew ha recommended that we pick up for the trip a handheld digital thermometer or two. The ones at HF were 40 bucks, so thanks for the links Lew.

Sure would be nice to step out of the truck and immediately and accurately check the temp on the bearings and tires.  Also great for use around the house.

Thanks Lew.

Getting ready, gearing up.

As am I!! :thumleft:  :thumleft:  :thumleft:

Scotty, question bud.  Are you going run oil-injection on your motors or are you going the pre-mix route?  Just thinking about oil tanks...

COUNTDOWN!

Scotty should be in my driveway this Friday afternoon. All the parts are here, extension housings to convert to 25" shafts are painted and curing; came out very nice. I'll hit them with 1200 grit on Thursday and wax. 2 Days to go through the engines and shaft extensions and off to Bob's on Monday morning. I'm thinking about an alternative route to Bobs to keep Scotty off of I4 downtown and associated traffic.

Farley,
Why not head down to New Smyrna, pick up SR 44 and come across that way?  Get to Crystal River, then down 19.  Easy drive, no traffic...

Another way, but involves a little of I-4.  4 down to Sanford, get off at SR 46, 46 over to Mt. Dora, 441 into Tavares, then SR 19 (not US 19!) down through Howey-in-the-Hills on to 50.  Then straight across 50 (we're about 2 miles N of 50).

Couple of suggestions, I've done both routes many times...

Thank you both so very much. It is such a great feeling having friends you can count on. I REALLY appreciate this

I'm very excited. Of course, as it always happens...right when you're getting ready to leave you get real busy at work  So just trying to get everything done before Thursday.

Bob, they are oil-injected, the tanks are mounted on top of the motors...so we're good there.

Thanks again guys, Good Lord willing, will see you soon :thumright:

Scott are those larger oil tanks on those motors or are they just the little header tanks?  I'm curious as to how much oil capacity they have.

Bruce,
He has the standard 1.3 +/- gallon oil tanks under the cowling. On the inline 3 and 4 cylinder engines this was standard. Depending on the year, you opened a door on the cowling to fill the tanks that gave you access to the filler cap and dipstick. They gave you 7 hours at full throttle before setting off the low oil alarm.

OK thats cool I knew the smaller Mercs had under the hood oil tanks but I wasn't sure how much the 75s held and the run time.  Not having a remote oil tank is a nice advantage. Seven hours should be plenty for Scott.  The chicken will be long gone before then!

Thanks Farl :thumright:

These have round caps on top of the hoods, you just unscrew them and pour away.

Bruce I'm glad you mentioned the chicken. I was thinking along the same lines, that oil should last me all summer. Make the loop over to the inlet, back to the dock.

What will really be cool is at night. Bob will be installing those blue romantic lights all over...and underwater too. There is an area at the inlet the kid's go "parking" at night. Pull up with running lights only...then hit the blue lights!!! Hope nobody gets bitten

I'll be bringing one up with me, so you won't need one on the way back down here...at least not until we get to Jacksonville.  Of course, as you mentioned, they are good to have, so it is up to you if you want to pick one up.

I think I'm about ready to go.  All trailer maintenance is complete.  Lights are working.  Truck has been serviced.  Just need to pack up the tools and hit the road Thursday morning!

Good deal Craig, looking forward to meeting you. Do you like oysters? Some folks don't, so just checking.

I'm set too, cleaned out the truck yesterday, loaded up all kinds of outfitting gear. Also found some french fries from 2004.

Have all of the trailer supplies for the road, and bought a floor jack from HF. Also bought a couple of cans of Fix-A-Fl...Fl....Nope, not gonna say it

I'll holler atcha before then :thumright:

You could use your bare hand.
Touch it with the back, not the palm first, then grasp with the palm. You can't hold it, time to repack.

Primitive and cheap but accurate enough to get me where I was going.

Longest tow, Islamorada Fla. about 550 mi. +/-, four different times.
