Aaron,
Entirely possible that boat has a Lenco actuator.  The grinding?  Yep, Lenco.  This one has a Bennett, even has the decal on the base.  Quiet as can be.  Just an overly long trim tab actuator...

I think Scott needs that feature on the Miss Delmarva.  What do you think, Bob?  Break out that little air saw of yours and have at it!  Hey, it's only money, right?

That could be really deluxe. Push a button, everything flips up. Bob you reckon you could rig a charcoal rotisserie and frozen margarita bar too :?:

Honestly, I really don't like them.  Remember when Grady first came out with that "feature" on the old 306 Bimini.  Chit, that was like mid-90s...

The problem is you are very limited as to what size head units you can install.  9" displays would be about max on the Palmetto set-up, so many people these days are going to 12 and 15 inch displays.  And then you have the back side access issue to deal with... :x   This one is not bad, but I still prefer dropping down inside the console and staring at the back of the units.

But then I'm old fashioned and weird...

I of course was not serious re. the pop-up electronics.  However....if you can figure out a way to push a button and make a blender appear...and a fryer, and/or rotisserie...now that would be the deal right there

Guys, have reached a decision. For what I need, which isn't much....gonna go with the KISS philosophy. Garmin 740s with sonar.

The price is right.  The next-gen with Apple "finger" technology is 40% more.

Scott,
I can't comment on the quality though I'm a Garmin guy with the GPS. I'd guess you can go full screen with the sounder too?
I do like the function of my 400 Garmin but let's face it, the screen is way too small. I feel like I'm looking at our old Muntz TV when I was growing up. I would think for old guys like us, the 7" screen will be like a "drive in".

The GPS will get you close but it's the bottom machine that gets you on the fish.

Good luck. :thumleft:

I've done a bunch of 7" screen installs, Garmin, Lowrance, Humminbird, Raymarine, the screen size is light years better than a 5".  The Raymarine is interesting in that it is what they call a "Hybrid Touch", whereas it can be navigated both with touch and with buttons, including the ability to lock out the touch feature...not sure why they did this, but...

As Nando says, touch and fried chicken do not work well!!  And of course, CB, you can have full screen of whatever you want, including chart with every KFC, Maryland, BoJangles, and Popeye's chicken location clearly denoted as waypoints... :thumleft:  :thumleft:

Yep guys, think this will get 'er done. CJ just PM'd me with a E-Bay deal that is unbelievable. And, a member here is checking on the price with a marine electronics wholesaler who is a good friend of his. So looking real good!

Stopped by the trailer place this morning and picked up a new spare and some other supplies. Getting ready for the trek south to the Promised Land

Getting excited. Ya'll please keep us in your thoughts and prayers...I-95 is well...I-95.

Thanks!

Stereo speakers:

Fitz came up with a neat idea...mount the speakers under the gunnels, keep from cutting holes.

Bob and I were discussing box speakers.

Found these today:

Box speakers can work pretty well, but the Bo$e models are very expen$ive!  How about a set of box speakers with a subwoofer in the console?  You will get GREAT sound and not spend the $$$.

Audiosource has great box speakers for the money 5.25':
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AudioSource-LS- ... 416ab8378e

Or maybe Boss:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BOSS-AUDIO-MARI ... 5d3891cae1

Then the subwoofer - location is not important - just put it inside the console somewhere:

Bazookas sound amazing for their size and price:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bazooka-Bt6024d ... 35bf96bf88

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bazooka-BT6014- ... 3a7d66d1cf

Then you just need a crossover to finish the wiring:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stereo-Subwoofe ... 5645a2d4d3

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Patriot-AX-100- ... 3a7da26997

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIAMOND-2-WAY-S ... 5644a0892f

A system like this sounds great!  AND you get out for under $150.  Wiring is easy, as the sub and the crossover are passive units, and do not require a power supply.  See what Bob says, but I've done this on a couple boats and cars with very nice results.

Good stuff CJ, THANKS!

Like the idea of the boxes for a few reasons. Need to go take a width measurement of the gunnel midships, see what kind of room we have to work with. Would like for them to be as hidden as possible.

Like the subwoofer idea too :thumright:
