Farley, unfortunately, you would have to get into tabs to achieve a more bow down attitude.  One thing you may consider is using Volvo QL tabs.  Rather than an adjustable trim "plane", such as on Bennetts and Lencos, the tab is basically a plate that extends downward from the housing, causing the onrushing water pressure against the plate to force the stern up, bow down.  Very unobtrusive, the housing is only like 1' wide by 2" tall.  Would work perfect on the back side of the boxes, you'd never even know they were there... http://www.volvopentastore.com/QL-Trim- ... _id.351561

Never saw those before; I would consider them if the boxes were through bolted and not lag bolted from 1973 into a nice, warm, wet, cozy plywood transom!

Bob - have you seen the prices on those Volvo tabs?     Almost double what Bennetts cost...  And it really does not look like there is much to the Volvo tabs...     I've thought about putting a set of QL-300s on my CCP - until I saw it was going to cost about $800!  The Bennett M80 or M120 is plus/minus $500 - and we know about Bennett's customer service, warranty, and reputation.   :thumleft:

John,
Yes, I am FULLY aware of the cost differential, as I have been dealing with them since '06.  I could write a LONG post on Volvo QL tabs and my experiences with them, but we don't have many insomnia sufferers here, so...

You MIGHT find a new one a few bucks less, but in looking at around 20 sites or so, that was the best by far...

Now, onto what you just PM'd me, the Garmin 740s.  I was incorrect in saying that it needed the GSD-22 to enable the FF function, as the 740s now has built in sounder capabilities.  But I'm seeing around $1k for the unit, as opposed to a few hundred more for the HDS-7 Gen 2 from Lowrance, which has structure scan, excellent side sonar...

Choices, choices, my friend.  May even consider the Humminbird 998CSi, which has side-scan, what Lowrance copied...and got sued!

FF only, yes, Nando.  But a multi-function display?  With side/structure scan?  Lowrance.  And yes, Humminbird is pretty good at it too, that's why Lowrance copied them...

Radar?  Raymarine or Furuno.  GPS/Chartplotting?  Garmin.  That's the problem when one tries to offer all...

And even though in these days you can theoretically connect all the brands via a NMEA 2K network, the protocol is the same for certain functions, they'll all see and display the same thing.  It's the software that they all don't recognize...

Think about it.  A Zuke or I-Command gauge is a Lowrance LMF-400 or-200 NMEA 2K gauge, but you need a Lowrance head unit to download software updates...

I thought Scotty was going with two units instead of one. You won't see a hummingbird or Lowrance on a commercial fishing boat.  When it comes to bottom machines Furuno is hard to beat, just ask any commercial grouper guy.  But I guess for chicken eating Scotty they should do just fine.

Nando, you are correct in that regard as to commercial guys.  But then, I see Lowrance units on your boat...

So we are now in the parts list stage.  I do this for all my clients, takes some time, but gives them an idea as to what they are looking at from a $$ standpoint.  I make 0 money off parts, that's for the auto dealers and the like to do.  Anyone doing any kind of research can get the part I buy for the exact same coin.  However, I do know some people...

So here you go Scott, a bit over $500 with the shipping from Greg's.  genuinedealz factors in the shipping into the cost, so WYSIWYG...

One might look at the 100' of 4GA red and go...WTF?  Keep in mind, Scott's batts will be aft, they have to run to the batt switches on the console side, then back to the motors, that get's lengthy considering twins and routing...and rigging!

2 displays are up in the air at this time.  I told him to go down to Worst and play with the larger displays, see what he thinks.

Doesn't matter to me, one way or another.  I figure I'm probably going to be doing a NMEA 2K network somewhere along the line, adding a display is a simple as powering it and adding a drop into the network..another tee...
