Good stuff Dave!

One of the most enjoyable trips we ever took was to coastal Maine. Monhegan, Camden, Cadillac, etc.

Absolutely gorgeous, nice folks too :thumright:

Bob, was looking again at the rendition. The console is only 27 inches wide. The wheel is 13 inches....

We MAY need to place the switches in a straight line just below the helm on the upper vertical wall....whatcha think?

Scott, no problem with that.  What I drew up this morn was simply an idea.  Real estate dictates what one can and can't do.  How about a straight panel to starboard at the bottom portion of the electronics flat?  Plenty of room for it there without upsetting the aesthetics of the flat.  Either way, even though I know you like old school type chit, I recommend Contura rockers over push-pulls...

BTW Scott, for a compass, I like the Ritchie Explorer F-50W, white case, white card.  What we used in my day at AS.  Great compass, good looking, and affordable...  http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... PX6K-QWQ98

I'm going out to play with a new switch panel now.  Keep those thoughts coming, Scott!  Be back...

That is a better idea than mine. Reason being, everything is in full view....you don't have to bend down (take your eyes off the road) to see what is on and off. Good safety feature. Especially when eating chicken at night.

I hope the members are cool with all this planning....we could do it by phone, but to me, this rigging setup discussion is the icing....the custom personal preferences at the end. Gives us something to think about/input on, and for sure can have application for everyone.

BTW this is an open discussion; all members are encouraged to express their thoughts. Many ideas are better than just a few :thumright:

Well, I'm thinking a little larger, a little fancier....with a blue card to go with the underside of the top and the motor decals.

Black rather than white....the Faria gauges are black on black. And thinking the white may clash with the eggshell gelcoat.

I'm great with the rockers SB :thumright:

Friends....so many times....we fail to ask the professional one simple question, "If it were yours, what would you do?"

This accomplishes several things, and I'm not talking of Bob and me here. By asking this, you have entrusted the individual on a personal basis. You have complimented them in a subtle way. And you have personalized the business experience...creating a friendship.

One out of a fifty customers ask me this. When they do...I melt. And when it comes time to present the invoice...they receive preferential treatment. Just human nature.

Be sincere...and try it.

Late to chime in here, but the panels Eugene uses are made by Innovative Products of Florida (I used to be an employee there). The panels are simply 1/4" clear cast acrylic, one side of masking is peeled, and they are sent off to screen printing to receive a grey carbon fiber print, leaving clear dots in the weaving. We then sprayed the carbon fiber print with whatever color the customer wanted (mostly the typical grey and black with a little gold flake). Kevin (the owner) then writes a program to whatever your exact specs are that you like (size, type of switch, placement of lettering, personal names, etc) and sends the oversized piece of cut acrylic to the HAAS CNC machines to be completely cut/engraved. Then the frontside gets a 1/16" radius and the backside is covered with a white vinyl and edges are flame polished.

And there ya go! Call them at 727-525-9673 if you want to get an idea of a quote, Kevin is a great guy. But beware turnaround time can be kind of extensive.

Excellent AB! Thanks for the input. As you describe is exactly the Shipoke product.  With edges covered to prevent light from escaping.

And BTW....glad you're back :thumright:  You're posts have always been spot-on...thanks!

Scotty, here is some food for thought.  Maybe you can get some ideas from my setup.

I read Bob's post about putting the stereo and VHF up in the electronics box but keep in mind Bob is a tall SOB.  IMO for us short guys the stereo and VHF should be down on the console, then you could turn the electronics box into a beat box.

Nando, I have no prob mounting all the stuff on the electronics face.  But just makes me wonder about the usefulness of an e-box anymore...
