Petey....your wish is my command sir. How about we put our heads together for a good/fun knee-slapper?

Bob, thanks for the great preliminary thinking. Lew liked that unit a lot, and it was a great price (under 1K, show special). But wanted to wait and get your input. Throughout this build I've bought stuff WAY too early. Emotion took precedence over ration, so trying to pull it back and make informed, logic-based purchasing decisions. Following the lead/input of our buds around here.

That's okay about the little Merc's not being "smart". I have to realize this boat is what it is. It is not an offshore boat. Offshore here means at the very minimum 30 miles out. Our good grouper bite is usually around 40 miles plus off the beach. I'll be using this boat king mac fishing out to say 20 miles on a pretty day, trolling the beach, Southport on the beach in the fall, cruising the fam, going to the beach, etc. My nav requirements will be minimal. My fishfinding requirements minimal as well.

I would like a nice, large flush mount compass up top. A nice sounding stereo. An ICOM VHF. A quality onboard charger. A nice backlit switch panel. And electronics...I like the idea of two units, but I'm worried with all of the gauges for the twins....hope we'll have room.

Just reviewed the post...sound like a kid on Santa's lap :thumright:

Keep up the good thinking SB...you da man :thumright:

Scotty, back-lighting is gonna be an issue.  Going to have to look around for that...in the correct dimensions and the look you want.  You would be looking at a custom job there, as the functions have to be engraved in the panel over the switches, then they coat the back side of the panel to allow the back lighting to shine through...well, glow through I guess is a better word.  Think I better contact Ivo at Ultra Panel and see what he can do.  Also need to talk to Dave Brown over at Teak Isle on that electronics box/enclosure with the sliding door we talked about...

Need to go look at something, be back...

The dash e-box....Onslow Bay has one ready to go, made for our console...just need to change the starboard trim from white to Hatt white. Saw it today, should be plenty of room to mount two units.

Nando, thanks on the panel info. You reckon those are the folks that made Shortpants's panel?

IDK - you should ask Eugene.  Only thing back lit on mine is the description of the item operated by that switch.

Sounds very similar. Saw Eugene's at the show. Carbon-fiber style front and sides, clear acrylic behind. Engraved(removed) material on the "labels" to let the blue LED light show through.

Good lookin'.

Can that be done?  Easiest way right there...

Scott, will need the panel dimensions and switch functions/number of switches to get it fabbed.  You know, spacing.  Carling Conturas IMO, unless you want to go with something different.  Lighted end toggles are nice too.  But, keep this in mind, if you have a panel engraved, you are stuck with the function, no adding or changing the config down the road.  Not like you're gonna do that, just saying...

Yep, we're good  there. Saw it today....nice, you'll like.

The backlit swith panel from Shipoke..deluxe. They used old school Cole-Herse switches, push-pull.

Lot to chew on...I'm stoked!

Scotty, used these on the 23 Seacraft I did couple years back, really sweet toggles, satin finish, red lit indicator on the end of the switch...http://www.searay-parts.com/PhotoGaller ... =LT-1531-1

The pics ain't the best, but here's the panel...

Just a different thought.  Got them from Flounder Pounder (no, not Marc!)...

Bob,  The dual 7" units is a great idea.  I plan on adding a second 7" HDS to the 245.  The price jump just going to a 8" screen is massive.  having two 7" displaysis much better than one big one.  As far as a back lit panel.  I know of a company here in town that can laser cut you one at a very reasonable rates.  Just send them a cad file and they will cut it out for ya.

Looks nice Bob. Bruce, thanks for the input. Would be cool to cad the titles...then have two or three additional at the far right as "acc".

Guys, there are a lot of great riggers here in NC. Work/have worked for Grady, Fountain, Southport, Albemarle, Parker, Hatteras, Buddy Davis, etc., etc.

So why would a Carolina guy pull southward 9 hours and 53 minutes on the worst Interstate in America to have a boat rigged?

One word.

Trust.

Bruce, duly noted.  Thanks!!

Scott, just to let you know.  However you want Miss D configured, that's what we're going to do.  Keep in mind, we all have personal preferences.  Myself, Bruce, Scott, Rick, CB, Nando, Pete, Marc, the whole gang, we can all input as to what has worked for us, what we like, what we DON'T like, etc., but in the end, it's what you like...and it's what we'll do...
