Scott,
You have the patience of a saint, much more than I could ever dream of.  If it was me I would have grabbed that thing way back and told them thank you and bye bye. Yes its awesome work, probably some of the cleanest I have ever seen but there customer service and finishing it up in a timely manner sucks. You could always throw her on a trailer take it to Eugine and squeeze in a day of tarpon fishing with me before heading home.
Do you plan on having them do the rigging too?

Hey thanks Matt!

Hindsight as they say is 20/20. What was said and what happened are two different things.

I can't offer a whole lot right now, as this is a public website. Let's just say I have a way of working this out in the end.

Eugene would have done a terrific job. Had I known Eugene two years ago, he would have done it, done a fine job, and I'd be riding.

Nope, they won't be doing the rigging. The Onslow Bay rigger is going to do it. Hopefully he'll have it by next year this time

Thanks for the gracious offer...look forward to fishing with you Matt!

Gran I agree with bob. Bugging them won’t get it done any faster. In fact, they sound like a company that would just slow it down more. Their work is some of the best I’ve seen, but they need to learn about first come first server. Having a happy customer is more important then putting another a head of some one that was their first. I use to deal with a old couple who owned a bearing house. When you came in and it was your turn. They spent every min. with you, till you were done. If some one came in and said , I’m in a hurry. They were told to wait their turn, come back later or one guy was told. Get the he!! Out. They were a great old couple. He was 92 and she was 90 and still running their company their way. Loved dealing with them. But back to your boat. She really is looking good and will be one of the best around. :thumleft:

Scott and I have talked about this many a night and its one of those things that can get dicey when you have a relationship with someone you are doing business with. Scott will probably get what we call apologetic pricing which will be somewhat of a consolation to offset the delay. I've met the owner of this company with Scott and the guy is stand up and is doing an amazing job; he just needed to recognize the business side of the project but the commitment may have been open ended and unclear. The lessen for all of us is when you're going to do business with someone; listen for key words like project management, timelines, leadtime, and completion dates with a specific payment schedule based on milestones. This is the way reputable businesses stay reputable. We have a board member in the boat business that speaks that language and I am impressed with that. So when it comes time for me to rebuild my 22-2 I will give him very strong consideration.

Having been to the shop to see the build myself I  have a little more insight into the company and the work that is being done.  They are a boat builder.  So when they get some boat orders Scotts project goes on the back burner.  When they are slow they work on Scott's boat.  When they do work on it they are doing GREAT work.  Roadasprin was with me and has forgotten more about building boats than any of us will know.  He really liked what he saw.  Granted Scott's project is taking a long time.  But I think if a shop was working on it full time the costs to him would be MUCH higher.   I can tell you the work is much more impressive in person.

My recollection is in November 2010 it was to have been ready in the spring of '11. Then the summer. Then the fall. Then last Christmas.

Then after Christmas was told it was a "back burner" thing, much like Bruce has described above. In between production.

The thrill ain't what is could be, but that's okay, we're not in this world for self-gratification.

They are 85% complete. I'll stick it out.

I'm not upset or mad, just disappointed in the schedule. Had the quality not been there, it would have been gone a year ago.

I'll be fine when we settle up.

Sincere thanks to all for your help, concern, and great advice!

Awesome boat!! It will be worth the wait. Besides, just think of all the fuel money you are saving. Maybe gas will be affordable when you finally get her splashed!

Scotty, I just spent 30 minutes typing you some advise on this thread and the dam site kicked me off!

Anyways, my advise to you is to be patient! In the end it will be worth it. My rebuild was almost identical to yours. After two plus years, as I watched several other projects come and go, the shop owner and I almost came to blows. Fortunately a friend of mine intervined and stopped what certainly would have been a fist fight. In the end cooler heads prevailed. Even though his business practices were horrible and or unethical, the craftmanship was/is outstanding. In the end it all worked out. In eleven plus years of fishing the boat, not once have I had to take the boat back to him. Once he completed the work, he granted me complete access to his shop and tools so that I could rig my boat. In the end it all worked out. Be patient my friend, in the end you will be happy.
