I'd like to thank you ALL for your interest, support, and best wishes now and throughout the course of the Miss Delmarva rebuild :thumright:

It was a whirlwind four days. Landed in Daytona Thursday. Off to Bob's to pick her up Friday, then to Bruce's for the mooring cover measurements. Then back to Palm Coast. Then get her ready for the splash Saturday, and all day Sunday detailing, etc.

Farley made a funny point  The boat has been down 2000 miles of highway yet has seen only one hour in the water!!

The return trip yesterday up 95 went pretty good. Two events: In southern Georgia a pickup comes alongside horn honking...roll down the window, lady says I'm about to lose the trailer tag. Stopped and tie-wrapped it. Then in Florence, SC they are doing road work. With no notice...they have a lane shift combined with right lane ending. I was in the middle lane. A big RV was beside me in the right lane towing a car. In the left lane was a tractor trailer passing us all. Don't know exactly haw we got out of that, but fortunately we did.

In southern SC, I-95 was the worst I've ever seen. Little bridges through swamps, humps, bumps, and huge potholes. They had orange cones on the side of the road marking the potholes. I swear the trailer tongue banged up on the ball at least 20 times....bang, bang, bang.

I am thankful to be home.

The boat....I couldn't be happier. She ran GREAT. Bob did a terrific job on the wiring and systems. Farley did a superb job on the twins. The builder did a great job on the hull.

Found out why the floor stains. The builder hasn't sprayed the final coat of wax-impregnated gel. Therefore, anything will stain it...it's like a sponge. So one last coat...end of issue.

Still trying to figure out the steering. The mechanic I've used for 35 years is checking her out...he'll get her right, no biggee.

Thanks again for everything guys. Aaron was right when he said Miss D is everyone's boat. A lot of members have contributed in MANY ways. My sincerest appreciation :thumright:

Glad you made it home Scott safe and sound. :thumright:

I finished up the pic thread with the splash being the final deal. We can always add more if you choose.

Good luck.

Quote from: "Circle Hooked"
Scott I'm very happy for you

And now a message From Mr Bob who is busy at camp, it is relevant to the latest postings.

Scott, great to hear that she ran great and there were no issues with the shift/throttles. Wanted to get them set up "out of the box" for you, where you had good idle, as well as full travel at WOT...from what Farley says in his report, sounds like we that was the deal!

In regards to the stiffer than one would expect steering, keep in mind, as I had discussed earlier, the helm pump came off a dual station boat, mot likely with an auto pilot, so it is a larger displacement pump, either a 2.0 or a 2.4 even. With Teleflex Seastar helm pumps, the higher the displacement, the lower turns lock-to-lock, but, along with that, comes a higher steering effort. Your steering comes in right around 4.5 to 4 3/4 turns LTL, IIRC, which would indicate the larger displacement pump. We also know both the helm and the cylinder are used, so that always throws the unknowns into the picture...

The ideal pump for your application is the HH5271, a 1.7 cu. in. displacement pump. But if you want to ease the steering effort up even further, and, as a bonus, reduce your cost, the HH5261 is an excellent choice. The turns LTL go up to between 6 and 6.5, but the effort is a LOT easier. IIRC, the 5261 is a 1.4 cu. in. pump...

Glad you guys had a great outing, hope everything I did held up well...

Steering Update:

Researched info on THT, of which there was quite a bit. In the meantime, Farley discovered a factory authorized Teleflex service center in Tampa, Boat Steering Rebuilders

http://www.boatsteeringrebuilders.com/

Spoke with the owner, turns out he does Eugene's work, so I was in good hands.

What Bob says is spot-on, and Captain Bob yesterday told me why. The large capacity pump is made for long dual station runs. Pressure is 1500 psi, versus 1000 psi on the smaller 1.7 helm. So a 50% increase in pressure. Shorter LTL throw, but less steering assist.

Butch the owner said the difference will be night and day. He will take my existing head in on trade.

The new model he is supplying is Teleflex HH 6541 with tilt.

I'll start a new post on the Vendor forum with the company info. These folks are personable, fast, reasonable, and easy to deal with.

CB, thanks for tackling the photo thread. Sure makes the pictorial journey easy to follow. The splash of course is the last, so great by me that the photo thread stays locked where it is :thumright:

Scotty,

Glad to hear you have a certain and imminent solution for your steering.

FYI - You can't lock the rebuild thread just yet.  It's not complete til there's some fish blood and chicken grease!!!

No locking THIS thread unless CB or Rick decide. Ten years from now someone might have a question from page 200

Man!!!

I loved it all :thumright:

She REALLY  surprised us on the WOT run....38.8 mph on the GPS into a steady 20 mph NE headwind. Turned her around and ran the same downwind...exactly the same.... 38.8.  Go figure

The best one was "coming in hott".... the little girl stopped on a dime...on two beers :thumright:

Twins...nothing like twins :flower:

Skoot...you're the man.

THANKS!!
