Nice job Aaron! Those brackets are available at TA Mahoneys.
I'd recommend some tape to separate the galvanized brackets and aluminum cross members and aluminum bunk supports.
So now that we have discussed LED lighting, on to the speakers. Even though I will be able to "t/bolt" the forward end of the speakers through the little "knee" that the builder provided, the aft end? Scott was hoping I could use the mounting bracket that came with the speakers, cut it, modify it, to screw into the hull-to-deck joint...which probably would have worked out pretty good. But.....the bracket falls shy of the joint by about 1 3/8". So on to plan....G???
Well, once I got the speakers, held them in place and determined that there would be enough room for the under gunnel LEDs, here is a test fit...When I say test fit, I mean that one never knows how they will turn out, based on the style of boat that I am presented with. Typically, "doughnut" deck boats, like a 19-6 or a 22-2, like the lights on the inside of the gunnel vertical face pointing outboard, allows the light to be reflected back inwards, like here on Scott's boat. If you install them on the underside of the gunnel itself, the light tends to shine straight downward, that same vertical face keeps the light close to the edge of the sole...not a good effect. On later model, 2 piece boats, where there are rod pockets, I mount them on the underside, gives a great effect, and then go with individual lights as the deck runs forward.I've pretty much done them all, so I have learned, to an extent, what each type of boat likes. But always keep in mind, every boat is different...even one 22-2 to the next...These lights will be epoxyed in place. Regardless of whose tape lights you choose to go with, and regardless of how "good" they say there adhesive is on the back side of the lights...they'll all fall down. Period. Even Scarab Chris's. So now that I have them where I want them, tomorrow, they'll come down, a good batch of epoxy mixed up, then up they'll go again...for good. Just part of the install, you know?
