Well Scott, your speakers finally showed up while Aaron was still here, around 5ish, but of course we were still bullchitting, so didn't get to see what they looked like until a bit later...dude, I'm tired, did a road warrior job this morn, helped our bud Aaron out (he'll tell you the rest), the back is giving me a bit of the fits...but, the speakers fit nicely!

As I was telling you, the pressed in threaded fittings for the brackets are probably 1/4-20...they are.

So now will be the fun part...mounting them.  See how tomorrow goes, right now, I'm done for the evening.  Aaron got effed on his order for the brackets he got.  The manufacturer sent him 3 good brackets and 1 that got "pinched"...lost a good 1/4" clearance around the 2" channel that the bunk mounts on.  Rather than him getting another or trying to fix the one he's got and come back up here to finish off the job (would take all of 5 minutes), I'll just order one and take care of it...

I'd recommend some tape to separate the galvanized brackets and aluminum cross members and aluminum bunk supports.

Nando,
Did some research, found this table of possible effects on dissimilar metals (galvanized steel versus "others"), and based on Scott's anticipated usage of the trailer (the boat will live on a lift), I would say his falls into the category of "Marine", rather than "Sea Water"...0 to 1, as opposed to 1 to 2.  However, the call is up to him.  And, given that I certainly am not going to take apart everything at this point, I would say that is something that he should take up with his trailer people in Wilmington...

Well, once I got the speakers, held them in place and determined that there would be enough room for the under gunnel LEDs, here is a test fit...

When I say test fit, I mean that one never knows how they will turn out, based on the style of boat that I am presented with.  Typically, "doughnut" deck boats, like a 19-6 or a 22-2, like the lights on the inside of the gunnel vertical face pointing outboard, allows the light to be reflected back inwards, like here on Scott's boat.  If you install them on the underside of the gunnel itself, the light tends to shine straight downward, that same vertical face keeps the light close to the edge of the sole...not a good effect.  On later model, 2 piece boats, where there are rod pockets, I mount them on the underside, gives a great effect, and then go with individual lights as the deck runs forward.

I've pretty much done them all, so I have learned, to an extent, what each type of boat likes. But always keep in mind, every boat is different...even one 22-2 to the next...

These lights will be epoxyed in place.  Regardless of whose tape lights you choose to go with, and regardless of how "good" they say there adhesive is on the back side of the lights...they'll all fall down.  Period.  Even Scarab Chris's.  So now that I have them where I want them, tomorrow, they'll come down, a good batch of epoxy mixed up, then up they'll go again...for good.  Just part of the install, you know?

So now that we have discussed LED lighting, on to the speakers.  Even though I will be able to "t/bolt" the forward end of the speakers through the little "knee" that the builder provided, the aft end?  Scott was hoping I could use the mounting bracket that came with the speakers, cut it, modify it, to screw into the hull-to-deck joint...which probably would have worked out pretty good.  But.....the bracket falls shy of the joint by about 1 3/8".  So on to plan....G???

The lights are romantic :thumright:

The aft speaker mount...no biggee. The 1.5 inches you're lacking above the coring....5200 a thick piece of the FRP sheet you like to use above the coring. If you can't find a piece of 3/4...I'll send you some tomorrow. Have Fed Ex coming your way anyhow...Thursday delivery.

The problem you're facing on the aft mount I've already anticipated. Please check your e-mails and phone messages.

Don't drill anything regarding the speakers, including the "knee", until we talk, thanks.

No JD, got them from an ebay seller.  Scott want's them to ring the the deck, basically about 42', even at my price would have been pushing $300...

Well, Scott's beloved speakers went in today...not fun at all, but they are done.  And the LED tape lights epoxied in place (that's what all the masking tape is for while the epoxy kicked off).

Tomorrow?  Final engine rigging, got my 2" sleeving in this afternoon.  Engine parts installed, although had to get 2 longer bolts from Lowes as Scott's powerhead threads were stripped where the bolts tightened up the starter motors, the replacement Mercury bolts simply spun as well.  Both motors have Arco aftermarket starter motors, so most likely the boogering up happened when the motors were swapped out...although I have no clue how...

Those speakers...dude, I am tired...
