Looks great Bob,I think if you would have put the rigging any closer to the transom then the bend in the cables would have been too tight and you would need to make a loop to make it work, perfect set up as is :salut:

Exactly!  Even excellent cables like XTremes prefer the least amount of total bends in their routing.

Nando, the operative word there was "could"...

I may run the engines this aft off the portable, make sure the gauges are doing what they are supposed to, see what our idle speed is per the new tachs.  Maggie had an 11:00 appointment this morn for a stupid little shot, but kinda right in the middle of getting things done, then I had to make an HD run and what have you, so a late start to the day...

And even though Publix makes excellent fried chicken, my favorite chicken meal is a box of Popeye's wings (spicey and huge!) with an order of their onion rings.  Good chit right there!!

I remember issues we had with the 245 Osprey dual station with the fold down upper station and the concept of "total degrees of bend" in the cables from the upper to the lower.  IIRC, total dgrees for all bends is preferable to be less than 360, whereas in that boat's case, because the top had to fold down, we were looking in the area of 700+ degrees of total bend...no wonder the upper station controls didn't work!!!

Here's a statement from Teleflex's article on cable design and application...

Quote
Other variables affecting cable life include: output
loads, cable length, and total degrees of cable
bend in the installation. The sum effect of higher
bend radii, lower loads, shorter lengths, and fewer
degrees of total bend
will all contribute to longer
cable life.

So I try to adhere to this philosophy...

Here you go boys, de-rigged.  Apparently there are some out there that didn't like my set-up, including Scott.  So, feel free to come up and work your magic.  I'll knock it off Scott's bill...

Takes quite a while to think out, plan, whatever, the rigging to come out the way it did...only takes 20 minutes to take it apart...

This has to be some sort of joke...this late in the game, after all of this trouble and this is what we get? To put a patch now would be ludicrous...what exactly happened? I've been reading this post every day just about and id be blown away if this isn't resolved in an orderly manner...the grudges and the childishness is turning me off from a site that I've enjoyed for years...

What the heck just happened here?  Boat is nearly at the ramp and now....Was there any discussion prior to the rigging tubes being placed?  I do agree that I would have liked them on the top compared to coming out of the side but again, I would have looked at hanging them out the back of the transom completely moving them out of the way.  I'm sure that would have caused issues with the cables not being able to move so I guess that's why I don't rig boats and look for the pros!

Good morning,

I don't think anyone was real excited about the way the motors looked, including Bob. I was also concerned about having safe access to that area for tending lines, gaffing fish, etc. I called Bob yesterday at lunch and asked if he could have an "open mind" and we could discuss this. He assured me that he could have an open mind, and this could be discussed.

I began by offering suggestions that others had made. Bob agreed to listen with an open mind. Instead and unfortunately it was taken as a personal criticism, an affront to professional ability. I can assure you this was not meant to be. I just wanted to discuss the options for my boat, the boat that I'll be looking at and running until my last days here.

Bob became angry, and fifteen minutes later posted pictures of the strip job.

Bob, you are a good guy, I like you, and always have. I still do. But at this point we have a business relationship. I think we all can agree, including yourself, that the customer has a right to be kept in the loop. Especially something of this nature. You have done an excellent job with this. But this engine rigging, you never offered me any options. You just did it, and said this is pretty much how it is.

Now you have taken it personally. And offered in your other thread to deliver my boat to a total stranger. Think about this. My property, which you encouraged me to bring to you, and assured me you would take care of...now you want to give to someone none of us know?    Bud, I'm 650 miles from you as I type this. Everyone here knows what has been spent on this boat. To say the very least.... I am concerned about my property.

I am more concerned for you as your friend. This anger and over-reaction isn't good for anyone.

Lets think this through.

Thanks guys

Very well written. I think Ms. D has become everyone's boat, the CAS flagship.

Guys, I really hope this gets worked out, it really needs to be.
Bob, with all due respect, this is not a way to treat a customer, let alone Scott.
You have done an exceptional job on Scotts boat, you should be very proud.
I as a forum member, really look forward to this build each evening, it has been incredible.
Your knowledge has made me a better and safer boater in what I install or have repaired.
Bob, you and Scott need to have a talk, no matter what you think, there is always a solution.
I  can only assume how hard it is to have your work being discussed on a open forum, must be really difficult at times.
You were chosen for a reason, you are very good at what you do.
Scott is quite a ways from you, please make him feel comfortable with his decision and safety of his property.
You are almost at the finish line, please for everyone, cross the finish line.
Just my 2 cents on this matter.

Bryan
