How about a photo with the glass opened up. Is there a mounting surface behind the glass to flush mount goodies or is it a cavernous hole?

This box will go behind it later....



Electronics mount on the vertical flat, nice little storage bin below that.  Both pieces will be installed from the back side so there will be no visable fasteners.  What I'm contemplating doing is installing the "box" from the front side using flat head screws, c'sinking the glass so the heads are flush, all around the opening within the perimeter of the frame.  Then come in from the backside and secure the frame.  The frame will hide the screw heads...

So the door slides up into the top of the console?  That is bitchin'!  No darn door flopping around!  How does the frame fasten in Bob? since I don't see any visible holes in it.

Scott and Seabob, going back to the gauges, when I go back to my old drag race days we always set our guages as most important closest to your line of site :thumright: with that mind frame how would it look to have fuel between the tachs and the next one out on each side be temp then water pressure, just thinking, giving scott something else to chew over so he doesn't go into to much overload :lol:

The next smaller in the SS lineup Jon, the SS-1000.  Tried to tweak all the dimensions as best I could, just wasn't gonna work with the 2000.

Gary, in theory, based on the possible impending demise of an O/B motor, temp and wat press should be first and foremost closest to line of sight.  Also, as Bruce has alluded to, like racing and flying, one would want to orient their gauges so that normal operating temp/pres/whatever is at high noon.  Quick sweep of the gauges, all the needles are where they are supposed to be visually, pay attention to more important matters...like controlling a vehicle moving at high rates of speed!  My Dad was a fighter pilot, I know about orienting gauges... :thumright:

But I think we have to look at the intended purpose for Scott's boat, and how HE intends to use it.  This boat is basically going to be used in a very liesurely manner, a few WOT bursts here and there (probably pretty rare!), for the most part a gentleman's boat.  Scott's a wise boater, been in and around boats all his life, I'm sure he knows to pay attention to those gauges, regardless of their location and layout.  So what we're trying to do is provide all the information he needs, while at the same time doing it so that it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye.  That's why I thought Aaron's idea of the fuel gauge between the tachs was a good idea, as we had an odd number of gauges.

In the end, what it all boils down to is how Scott wants his boat set-up.  Yeah, the behind-the-scenes stuff, like breakers, bus bars, the "guts" of the rigging, he leaves that up to me.  But what he has to look at, and touch, feel, every time he takes the boat out...that's his call.  If I know of a better, or more economical way to do something that will achieve the same thing he want's, I'll suggest it.  If something is a few $$ more, I'll suggest it.  But if Scott thinks it over, and says, nah, I'll stick with what I wanted...no problem.

My job here is to give Scott a boat that is equally as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.  Granted, a different kind of beauty, but, none the less, still beautiful.  When I go to the Miami boat show, I love to go on the big boats and get down in the engine rooms.  I could care less about an ultra-suede sectional in the salon, I want to see machinery!  Systems!  Electrical!  Yeah, I want it to  look pretty on the outside, but...

Guys, I've most likely beat this to death here over the years...but...the biggest business mistake most folks make over the course of their lives is this: They fail to ask the professional one simple question... "If it were yours...what would YOU do?"

This accomplishes many things. You have complimented the person. You have sincerely asked for help on a personal basis. And when it comes invoice time....I promise, you will be looked upon favorably. The sweet ladies I look out for? The 10% who are unsweet...well, lets just say they don't receive preferential pricing.

Bottom line:

Try as we may...we can't beat a man at his own game.

We've had members that attempted to diagnose problems regarding this or that to "save money." Time after time...this was replaced, that was replaced, had to do this, bought that...at the end....same problem. All that money spent for nothing, cause we're too damn proud (read cheap) to get it done right the first time.

Farley was spot-on today when he said it would have taken us three hours of studying/measuring to cut the big hole in the console. A man that has rigged literally hundreds, maybe thousands of boats....already had in his mind the clearances, measurements, procedures, etc.

YOU CAN"T BEAT A MAN AT HIS OWN GAME

I drove 650 miles to get the best rigging available IMHO....and am happy and proud to count this gentleman as a friend :thumright:
