vacating Florida
« on: March 07, 2011, 03:41:44 PM »
It's official.  Last week we closed on a house and 2.4 acres with a little pond in Lower Alabama.  Received the deed in the mail today.  It may be a month or two  before I move but it will happen.

Only 8 miles to the boat ramp on the Tensaw River (brackish) and 25 minutes to launch on Mobile Bay.

Now I'll have to put up with Lewis bugging me to go fishing with him or wanting to park his boat in my yard.

Congrats - gonna miss you bud.  Even though we didn't get to fish much together I did enjoy the times we did get together.
Are you retiring? If not, how far to the nearest airport?

Is the area that is outlined in blue your property? Doesn't seem like enough area to be what you described above.

Not retiring.  Can't afford that.  I probably will have to work until I die in this economy. The good thing is that as of today I only owe $15K on that property.  I'll have it paid off in a year and that makes retirement not so scary.  It's in a 500 yr. flood zone and not in a wind zone so homeowners insurance will be dirt cheap.  Alabama real estate tax?  Well, I don't want to hurt you all's feelings. ;)   Yeah, that's the outline of the property from the county tax website.  It's just under an hours drive to either Mobile or Pensacola airports.  Each has 9 Delta flights to ATL every day.  I did not check other airlines.

Hey give me a break! I've been down in the basement sanding teak.

Before sanding, after sanding and oiled.

Looking forward to it too! Between you and I and Marc, I think we will have every bit of water covered within 75 miles!

Lew, the teak looks GREAT!

JJ, you did the smart thing by moving. Especially getting it paid off quick. Wish my mess was paid off. Would've been paid off  6 years ago had I stuck it out with the ex.

No regrets. Easier if you can avoid it.

JJ, almost forgot...is that a pond at the end of the property?   :thumright:

Yeah, a little 1/3 ac. pond.  I think they were forced to put it in to capture the sediment from runoff.  Several lots down through there have the ponds right on the back end.
