I figured I would start a new thread for the motor repair.
This is what I am starting with.

The pins I have to remove.

Looks like a pretty clean motor.  What's your point?

Hey if the pins do not come out with a brass punch and hammer, we will take a 3/8 drill bit and drill in about a 1/4 inch then take an air chisel with a punch point on it and drive them out, some times a little heat is needed.

Thanks for the input guys. I got the OMC manual, with it and all you guys ideas I am sure I can handle it. Thanks again.
If they won't come out easy, where do you get new ones? Are they readily available (aftermarket)?

A little heat and a lot of BFH usually gets them moving.

Have you tried beating the pins out while you trimmed up or down? or just vary the position of the trim/tilt so you can beat on it when it's at different pivot points.
Just a thought.

I haven't tried to pull the TTU yet. I just got the new one today. I had another problem crop up this afternoon. One of my neighbors stopped by and wanted to hear the motor run so I tried to oblige. The starter isn't engaging the flywheel. It does spin, but thats all. We also noticed hammer marks on it where the PO (from now on known as silicone boy) had been beating on it. Since I have the manual it only took about 10 minutes to take it off. Any ideas? Thats why they call it a hole in the water.

Does it spin really fast?
As in fast enough to engage?
If it doesn't engage (and we know it doesn't) it could be as simple as a weak battery or worn brushes or a burnt commutator (sp).

Take a jumper pack, or jumper cables, negative to the engine ground, positive right to that positive stud coming out of the starter, it should spin and fly up.

It got dark on me tonight so the jumper cables are waiting till in the morning. The good thing is I already found some on ebay for way under a hundred bucks. If it throws the shaft up really well I will hook up my group 27 and see if that makes any difference. Heck Bob, you might be seeing it sooner than we talked about!

Drop me a line, let me know.  The SeaCraft is starting to look a little better. She's gone from this...

...to this.  Had a little fun this afternoon, after ripping most of the chit out of the helm...

Just a start.  We'll get your's looking pretty, Lewis... :thumleft:
