KILL TANK AND LIVEWELL TANK PUMPS

Hi all,

Both have died on me. (2002 Osprey 205 Tournament Master)

Is there a fuse box in this boat, I cant find it anywhere. Maybe im not looking hard enough!

Also thinking of replacing them regardless anyhow and tracing the wiring system, so I know its all sweet.
Any recommendations?

I'm not intametly familiar with the 205 osprey like I am with my 245, but all marine wiring is similar.  I doubt your livewell and FB pumpout pumps are on a fuse, more than likely the CB directly below the respective switches is most likely the overload protection.  If you can use a test light, remove your switch panel, find a good ground usually the ground buss in the console is pretty accessible, you should have one large red wire that jumps from CB to CB all along the switch panel, this is the input to the CB.  Test the input side of the CB, then the other side, that side will loop right up to the input side of the respective switch, then turn your switch ON, and probe the output side of the switch, if you get a nice bright white light at all the above points you are good in the panel.  Now you have to go to the pumps, same deal, find a good ground, and with the respective switches ON, probe the 2 wires going into the motors, one of them should light up bright white, if one of them does, your pump motors are either shot or the motor is not getting a good ground.  To test for the ground, put your clip from the test light on a positive + hot connection.  NOW, probe the OTHER wire (Not the HOT wire you just stuck) going into the pump.  If that wire has a good ground connection, the light will light up, if not, your motor is not finding a good ground.  Chase that ground down and find the green powder monster that is giving you a headache.  Most of the time, with pumps below deck, it is from where a wire has been spliced with a butt-connector and not sealed properly.  Being that both your pumps went out at the same time, I would lean towards the bad ground or power.  Good luck

Cheers for the tips, certainly followed them and spent 7 hours investigating...

Checked all CB's all sweet, and switches...

so I removed my pumps and t put them to 12V they worked....quickly realised the wiring inthe back end was pretty shocking... and found to negative to ground cables that were U/s....so I think longer term I need a re-qire job doing on the back end to the front plus switches etc...

and it took me a while!!!

Went out today, awesome to have the kill tank and washdown working again.

Yeah, that green stuff will swell up and bust the insulation open, then things really start to go south.

It would behoove you to go over ALL the wiring in your boat.  You have corrosion in the grounds, you will have it on the positive side as well...

Yes I will change all ground cable next, just as a precaution and I know its right.

ANy advice on cable connectors, shrouding and protection methods, to prevent corrosion ingress spots?

Also what electrical lube are you guys applying to connection spots.

Good quality butt connectors, proper size heat shrink tubing with adhesive or pack the ends of the connectors with dielectric grease. Tape is a last resort because you're trying to keep moisture out. Tape works best when wrapping X-mas gifts.

Grease: Dielectric or if your old school, petrolatum. Put it on after you make the connection.
PS... Vaseline is suspect as a carcinogen.  

Ain't nothing sacred any more.  :(
