Dreaming in Color
« on: March 01, 2011, 05:22:55 PM »
After telling myself for so long, "It's just a fishing boat, don't make it pretty", I think I've changed my mind.  I've seen too many beautifully painted boats on this site and I've given in.  This winter, I plan on repainting the boat.

I will keep the hull coated with the bottom paint, for the simple reason that at the end of the day, it is a fishing boat and I scrape the bottom all the time.  I could change the color though.

I asked my girlfriend if she could attach some topside colors to my boat, and she threw these together in her spare time today.  They got me really excited, and I figured I'd share them with you guys.  These are some of the colors I'm considering, but I'm leaning toward the yellow.

Thoughts?

I like the fighting lady yellow myself but I'm sure others on here will disagree.  The dark colors look really nice but it seems like you can scratch them just looking at em!  Also the bright colors are real easy for search and rescue to find!     All that matters is what you like!

GGGRRR!!! Fighting Lady Yellow!  Hated it the first I laid eyes on it, 250 Osprey...but that's my opinion, not your's...

Sea Foam green or Black...and yeah, what wingtime said.  Dark colors show EVERYTHING!!!

You took a big chance asking your girlfriend... If I was asking mine, any color would be fine as long as it was purple! The seafoam would be OK. If your leaning towards green that rebuilt 67' 22-2 with the new Suzie and half tower thats been for sale for a couple of years looks very nice. He recently posted it again last week.

Where's the pink version?     Barbie pink, pepto pink, or Avon pink?

I saw a Cape Horn the other day in light blue that looked really nice.  Don't go banana yellow if you wan the boat to continue to float...

I like lighter colors on boats vs. darker colors, but saw a navy Aquasport recently that just glimmered on the water and looked pretty cool.

Hell,
I'll put in my two (2) cents.

First, if you're going to leave the bottom paint, I kinda like what Fearless Leader did with his 230 and repaint ($) an a almost white color.

Second,
That stated, I think it opens your palette selection greatly with the somewhat darker colors. Sea Green seems very popular these days but I'm a blue/grey type guy (that's why I own an off white boat :( ).

The darker bottom paint does look better with the lighter mid and top side. If I stayed with the bottom, I'd go with pale blue, grey or yellow. Just to be different than the green.

Just my opinion.

See,
two votes for pale blue  :thumright:

:thumleft:

A guy around here painted one green. It was kinda weird looking, sorta "commercial fishing" looking, JMHO.

Another thing about light blue is it kinda blends in at your "secret" holes...

Very smart indeed!

My favorite when AS went to colored hulls was Forest Green with the gold striping, followed by Deep Navy  Blue with same.

At Proline, we offered an all Black hull with a Cardinal Red bootstripe...that was killer right there... :thumright:  :thumright:

Naw feelin'.... tough tellin' you this... you're one of us now.

All black is bad to the bone. The pink stripe shows your a manly man. Seabob can give a witness...as a younger man, he wore a pink shirt the first day on the job. A NEW job.
