Auto Pilot Parts
« on: February 03, 2011, 05:32:30 PM »
I have this motor attached to the steering column. I have contacted the mfg and they do not make it anymore.

I also asked for some details on what it would take to get ti going but got no response.

Funny, because everything I read about this company says AWESOME customer service.

Any way, lets see if you guys can help me out. Here it is:

Looks like i need a CPU with binnacle input. Any ideas????

Can I hook it up to a GPS/plotter or other auto pilot?

Have you contacted Benmar here?  http://www.benmarmarine.com/Service.htm

I did with this:

Bob,

What unit do I have?

What exactly do I need to use this unit?

What type of signal drives the unit?

Do you have Benmar P/N's need to make this operational?

If not a Benmar then what?

Do you still service units?

Do you have manuals for the unit and/or the other parts I am looking for?

I would like to get this working. Of course at a reasonable price.

I appreciate the time you are taking to help me.

Thanks

And this is what I got back:

Ethan,
You can use any Benmar manufactured control systems with the exception of the Mdl. 14/16.
You can also use other Mfg. control system with the CS21 Std power unit.

Bob

Not a whole lot of information....

I'm still not sure what I need or even if it is worth keeping this thing or just buying a complete system.

I found a complete Benmar on E-Bay and am trying to get that for around $200-$300. I'd like to know what other options I have as E-Bay shows other mfg. components for $1000's.

Any ideas?

What do you guys use for auto pilot if you do at all.

The Kid,
What I would do is call them, and ask to speak to a service staffer, or technical sales (if they have such a department).  You need to speak to someone who, from the detailed description you give them, knows exactly what you have, and knows the parts that comprise the system.  You also need to describe to them what type of trouble-shooting you have done, where you have voltage, where you don't, if you have hydraulic steering, if so, where is the drive unit (pump), does it have voltage, etc...

In other words, dig deep, find all the components of the system, then talk to someone knowledgeable... :thumright:
