Just curious
« on: January 21, 2011, 09:51:18 PM »
I been curious about this for awhile and i was wondering if it could it be done. I was wondering if you can flat back a 1977 17ft aquasport, because i saw a newer 17ft mako flat back with a motor mount.  So can it be done and as anyone done it or seen one?

I Am Just Curious

thank you
chris

A flat back AS refers to the dead rise at the transom.  A flat back has close to zero degrees of dead rise.  A 17 AS has twelve degrees.  So the simple answer is no you can't make it a flat back.

But I think you are asking about full transoms.  In that case yes you can.  You would need a porta-bracket or of the like.  You might run into issues of too much weight off of the stern.  These boats like a light engine on the transom.

Why do you want to go to a full transom?  Are you getting waves over the stern?

Hmmm after seeing the mako.  It makes sense.  It looks good.  The only thing I don't like is how far the engine is hung back there.  But I think I have seen 17 prolines come from the factory with a full transom.  I would make a very different AS when compared to all the others.  I wish I had a full transom sometimes when coming off a plane in rough water.  Lets see ya do it!

I like it and add alittle more space on the boat and more options too. The big thing is i really dont feel comfortable doing that  work pair to the floor and dont know how much it would be. Here is a pic of my 17ft and my motor doesnt really sits look.

I would like to do something in the rear to hide the oil tank and lines this winter when i restore it.

Nice boat by the way, that's about perfect for the Boca area, you won't get beat up when the sea breeze kicks up like all those flats boat guys.

Chris,
When you post, do not click on the the "IMG" button in the tool bar above. Just get your pics to PB, size and replace and then click in the IMG line there (just like you're already doing now). Then place the pic where you want in your post and hit "Ctrl V". Clicking the IMG button in the tool bar adds the additional "image code". Only use that if you somehow know the code for a pic and you want to manually type it in. Same thing for the URL button.

Now,
Disrobe her and show us the good stuff

Nice boat Chris. I have one on the other side of the bridge and it works great in the shallows of Charlotte Harbor. See you out there sometimes, maybe at the spring get-to-gather. Mine has a 140, which is too heavy, but I just put plugs in the scuppers.
