New project 1976 22-2. Hoping for LOTS of advice :)
« on: January 21, 2011, 06:48:19 PM »
Just bought a 1976 22-2. Its got a 200HP Johnson, unknown year, but coming off anyway so who cares? I'm eventually hoping to have a nice, solid boat to knock around the bay, but not a gold plater by any means. So, here are some questions; thanks ahead of time for any advice! :)

Checking the transom - How much flex is too much?
Any way to check for waterlogged foam short of ripping the deck off?
Thinking of the Suzuki DF175 for power... opinions?
Motor mounting... jack plate? straight bolt to transom? mounting bracket?
Trim tabs?

Many thanks everyone!

If you can easily see the flex it may be too much.  When you jump on the caviation plate does it flex or does the boat move?

You could drill a hole in the side of a stringer through a hatch and reseal it when done.  But if it is, so what as long as the deck is solid.

I like Suzuki engines.  I am a two stroke fan.  As long as you work with someone to prop it right it should work out well for you.

Depends on use.  I like jackplates.  You can idle and run skinnier water.  And then drop the engine in rough water.  They are simple and chicks dig them!

They can't hurt.  Run the boat first and see what you think.

Then I'll assume you have a Photo Bucket account and understand how to post photos to it.

Open this link and read it carefully. The first part is how Photo Bucket works. The second part is why you can't post to the Forum.
Again, you must have a PB account and post your pics there first. Then follow the next set of instructions on size limits and how to re-size your photos to fit on this site.

Good luck.

My knowledge of boat rebuilding is very limited so I will not give any input on the transom or stringers.

As far as the Suzuki outboard goes that is what I plan to put on my 24 Proline.

I have talked to several people who have them and the only draw back I have heard is getting some parts. Of course that was from a crabber that after running his 250 for 4000 hrs had to have some electrical components replaced.

Trim Tabs? I dont think I would own a boat with out them. If you know how to use them they can be a night and day difference.

nice rig,I remember seeing pics of it when it was up for sale,if you are repowering and the old motor is in fairly good running condition it should bring $1500 or so on the used outboard mkt, good luck :salut:
