Looking for quotes
« on: January 19, 2011, 09:27:41 AM »
I am opening up and seeing how much it would be to redo my floor and paint my 17ft 1977 aquasport. I realizing that i dont really have the time to do the work or the spaces to do it. Do you guys know anyone in southwest florida area that does this kind of work and at a good prices? The boat would be sanded and really to go, so all i have to get done is the floor and paint. I know of hammerhead boat works does it but kind of a hike and hard to get a qoute when i live about 2 hours away.

Please let me know

Thank You
Chris

I am curious too.

What is a typical cost to prep and gel coat or bottom paint a hull for a 22 footer?

I realize each case can be different pending the condition. But there has to be a rule of thumb.

Thanks.

It seems to be top secret as to what the costs are to have it done. I appreciate that each case is different. I know the sky is the limit when you close the transom, tower helm, jack plates the full monty. I`m guessing $25K+. But what about a basic rebuild, back to as close to original, new floor, transom, rubrail, gelcoat etc. Whats wrong with a restored original boat? It seems to work very well in the antique car industry.

most yards around our marina charge about $22 to $27 per foot to do bottom paint. includes haul out, prep, paint, launch...

i am also curious to see what it cost to redo the deck, mine is rotted from the aft end of the console to the transom about the width of the stringers, but solid as a rock everywhere else

Guys, mine is in for rebuild now. It is a 22-2 in for deck, transom, tank, casting platform, gel inside and out, console install, re-rigging, etc.

The work is being done by Seamark boats.http://www.seamarkboats.com/

They are a small outfit, big following among the watermen of the Outer Banks, Chesapeake, etc. This is a father-son operation, with 3 employees. They have built boats here for 30 years.

I checked around pretty much with everyone in the boating biz here, they consistently were recommended first. Honest, reliable, do a good job, easy to work with, and give a flip.

They have been great to work with, and feel certain will receive quality work. Their style fits my needs, not looking for Palm Beach finish (and the associated PB price) just a good, strong, attractive finished product.

I'll break down as a guide the charges per each job along the way. The 19'6's, 170's will be proportionally less (deck rebuild). Bear in mind the deck will be nida-core, with inlaid high density core in high stress areas (console, T-top, sit on top baitwell, etc.) Subtract for marine ply per the difference in material cost, inlay labor, etc.

One big thing on the deck install: we will run miniature "stringers" outboard at the chines for the deck install. Got this from a Tampa re-builder, he was adamant about this for tie-in, overall strength.

Bottom line, ask around your area, see whose name keeps popping up. Many times, the "big names" aren't the best value, with research.

Best wishes, good luck!
