Need More Fuel????
« on: January 14, 2011, 09:56:07 PM »
I plan on adding a kicker to the 222FF. I'm wondering if I can just tee into the water separator as it has two inlets and outlets.

Or should I run another line and add another separator?

Or add another line to the existing separator and then to the kicker? That would mean two in two out.

I only plan on running one motor at a time, obviously.

Also, what can I do with the 85 gallons in my tank now.

I'm a little leery of using it. Can I pump it out through the filter and then pump it back through a filter and use it? I will add Stabil and other additives.

I don't know Calif. regs on old fuel disposal but if it has been in the tank longer than a few months (with stabilizer) get rid of it and start over.

Also, if I might suggest, since you are "rebuilding" this particular boat, be it cosmetically/mechanically or even structurally, that you please enter your posts concerning anything dealing with the makeover  under the same thread. Please start one something like, say; "79 222 FF" in the Rebuild forum and we'll gather up the posts and place them together in one spot. This allows for other members to locate info concerning your work more efficiently rather than starting a new thread every time you remove a different part from your boat.

Make sense?

Thanks :thumleft:

Capt. Bob makes good suggestions and works hard for the benefit of all.

Regarding the fuel pump-out:

Run the fuel through your good onboard filter/separator with an external 12v pump or drill-driven pump, directly to your truck. (CAREFUL with sparks, etc.) or external 55 gal. tank. Have done this with six month old gas, filtered as above, no problems in my Chevy.

We have used clean polypropylene soap tanks safely and effectively for temporary fuel storage/transfer.

Hope this helps.

Hey Kid,

Depending on your kicker choice; it will have to be oil injected or a 4 stroke in order to use the same fuel source. Unless your buying another Tohatsu just make a fuel line adapter to run the kicker off of the same fuel line as your main engine and just use one line. I found the best adapters to be the old style 1980's Mercury twist lock male and female bayonett connecters which are readily available. Remove the tohatsu fuel connector from your main line. Install a Mercury female. Make a 1 foot long hose, install the Mercury male on one end and the Tohatsu fuel connecter on the other end. Now for the kicker make a fuel hose long enough to reach the kicker; assuming you will mount it on the starboard side. Put another Mercury male on one end and the kicker connecter on the other end. So when you want to run the kicker unplug the main line to the tohatsu at the Mercury fitting and connect the kicker hose to the Mercury fitting; prime and go using one fuel line and primer bulb. Also, the Mercury male fitting can be easily drained because of the exposed plunger and stow the kicker line without gas sitting in it for extended periods.

OOPS; meant mount the kicker on the port side to avoid entanglment of steering, harness and control cables with the main engine.
