Marc what did the fish box lid look like, looks like a 2 piece in the pic ?

Why, yes it does   Actually since he is selling the boat, I have asked him if he would like to swap with some $$ for mine.  It would save me some work of converting mine, however, not sure of how, when or where his came from, it does not have the fixed center section, but the inside "cut edges" do have a lip glassed in for re-inforcement similar to the three piece style?? and the hinges are recessed in cut out areas (no non-skid) also like the 3 piece design.  I wonder if this was a transitional design.?  Bob??? Ever seen anything like that OEM?

What you are seeing below was OEM for 95.
Is that a 2 piece lid?
Is it hinged?

Catalog shot.

94 catalog looks like a one piece lid (hard to tell).
Scott is yours 1 piece?

Bob Mine is one piece, so it seems like they went two piece in 95 back to one in 96-97 then 98 or so three piece

Marc are you able to get some pics of the lid, maybe we can use those as a guide to make a two piece from what we have.

I have an idea  :study:.  I can cut mine in half, but along the cut edge I will glass in a support across the lid, to give support, sort of like a joist going across.  That will create two flat pieces facing eachother, and I will use a stainless piano hinge in between, it will be almost flush with the deck.  I think that will be the easiest way to do it.  I wish had remembered the dimensions of the 2-piece lids at The Marine Connection when I was down there during Thanksgiving.  I never knew there was a 2 piece hinged lid, I thought the only hinged lids were 3 pieces with the piece in the middle.  For all I know I could have had the lids in my hands, but I was thinking I would need the middle piece and I didn't see any of that laying around, so I just dismissed the thought of buying the 2 lids.    BTW, Pete is going to get some pics of his lids with inside details, so that should help. :thumleft:

Marc, here are my lid pics,,the center section is about 5-3/4",each hatch is 28" on the centerline, the hatch is held in place by the 4 screws in the center section to remove hatch I just remove the 4 screws, let me know if you need more detailed specs..

notice that the center section also has a lip that extends under the hatch for support

Thanks Pete, that underside pic is what I wanted to see especially, if I make mine into a folding cover, I will probably eliminate the middle piece and just go with a piano hinge, If I made the middle section, it would involve twice as much glass work because each side of the middle section would require the bracing pieces also.  Thanks again

You guys might wonder why the underside of Pete's lids are green.  No, it's not from mildew, they are made using the VEC process, http://www.compositesworld.com/articles ... d-painting, whereas Scott and Marc's lids are laid up in the traditional manner...

Just a little tidbit of info...

Looks like he's lowered the price by $500.  That would be a great deal if it could be had for $8500

It can be, probably less than that.  He seems to be pretty motivated to sell, and honestly, he's getting closer to what the boat is worth in its current condition.  It needs a lot of TLC, the bottom paint needs to be re-done or stripped, and the glass repair on the fwd stb side of the cap is not a DIY job unless you are skilled in glass and gel coat application.

I'm interested in that boat.  I obviously like the WAC models and I'd like to have something a tad larger than my 200 and this one is set up the way I like..  Of course it's far away so I'd like to try and find one around here to look at to get a feel for the layout.  Is there any known common problems with this model to look out for?   Of course that would be a long tow to get it here... yeah it's in FL but the Panhandle is long!

Go for it wing :thumright:

And Marc is going to look at it for you?  Gee, that's great.

IMO, it's just like you're looking at it for him...or me looking at it for you...or the boys looking at it for us, etc.

He knows boats.

Marc discovered/ bought a pristine 222 CCP last winter for JDupree here...and JD couldn't be happier.

Great work guys.

Yeah great group of members on here!

I hope I can pay it forward sometime.

I have been searching up the net for pics and such of the 245 Explorer.  I'm trying not to get my hopes up though in case there is a deal breaker.
