Boat Ladder
« on: December 15, 2010, 08:31:49 PM »
We own a 03 225 Explorer TE with 225HP 4 stroke.  2007 dual axle trailer
Boating mostly in Flagler Beach along the ICW and up by Matanzas Inlet.
Use yearly in the Keys, Marathon for fishing and diving.  10 year old daughter just got certified as a junior diver.  Both the admiral and I are Divemasters.

In the summer months, trailer boat to Lewis Smith Lake in Alabama (10 hours).  3rd cleanest lake in the US.  Used mostly for skiing, kneeboarding and tubing.  Fishing mostly for stripers, trolling.  Lake is a dam lake with depths to 300 feet.  Crystal clear water fresh water with no gators.  Last summer lost my ladder off the swim platform, checked d/f was 175 feet, gone...  Over 500 miles of shoreline.  Have a family summer lake cottage that we rent out.

Thanks Pete,  Windline is where is replaced it.  Was a little concerned the notches were not going to fit, but everything works great.  Not sure if it floats,  do not want to take a chance again.

Those ladders are great. My old Pursuit had a slide-on version. Worked great 'till loaded everyone up one Sunday afternoon....storm coming....pull bow and stern anchors....and high-tail for home.

Forgot to pull the ladder.

If your in open, deeper water, they throw a hell of a rooster tail...shallower?  They get broke!

Never had a problem with mine.I use the pin to be sure it doesnt come out and the bracket "breaks away" while under way and ladder just skims the surface, the only way I could see to damage it is to go in reverse in a shallow area.Anyway its the best ladder I've ever owned, like being able to climb up wearing fins. :salut:

With those who don't take care of the mount, like you have, the "breakaway" is not going to happen...usually found out REAL quick...

Yea,I see how that could happen,if it was not maintained or used once in a while.

Scrapper, you can buy different depth mounting brackets that put the ladder further off the transom than the one that Pete has...

Hey Bball,
Did your mount bracket have the swing up feature like the pics in Pete's post....or was it a solid mount?...if it was solid mount did it have a horzontal hole through it for a safety pin?....reason I ask is I want to use a Windline ladder in a Armstrong mount(looks the same but no horizontal hole) on my 99 245 cc and I'm not sure it will fit.....
Thanks...Scott

Im on my second windline 4 step.  Mine is mounted on the side of my engine bracket so the breakaway wont work.  If I forget to stow the ladder and get underway, i have to replace both the bracket and ladder.

My grandma showed me that putting a clothes pin on the key reminds you of things - for her it was the lights (my grandma remember - no buzzer for anything back then)
