Transom Question
« on: December 10, 2010, 03:55:24 PM »
I recently purchased a 1980 Aquasport 22-2 ff.with a 150HP Merc.O/B. It is in good shape and fairly well taken care of. My question is can anyone tell me what the core material of the transom is. The transom is sound but there is a small crack between the outer skin and the top. If the core was plywood I want to inject thinned resin into the crack before I seal it.

My 1981 has wood in the transom...  I'm assuming it's plywood.

Transom will be marine plywood core with a fiberglass cover.

That crack is normal and is the cap  separating from the transom.  I would say the majority of the members have that crack if thay have the regular transom. Seal it up and you'll be fine.
The transom in my 170 is wood, the transom in my 230 is poured with a wood upper portion.
