Beautiful rig!  Did you convert to inboard or is it original?  Went over to the Webshots posts and took the tour.  The leaning post interests me.  On my 170 I hardly ever sit behind the console, especially under way.  Only time sitting is to fish and even then I sit on the rail.  Did you have the post custom made or is it a stock design.  Haven't seen many on 170's but would add valuable working room on the stern deck.

Capt. Rick's a good friend to have!  :D

Kash, nice additions.  I see that you also still have the plastic emblems.  I had to remake mine out of resin and cabosil and form the missing letters to complete mine on both sides.  I think they were damaged by my guides on the trailer sliding down the boat when loading the boat up.

You don't cover your boat?  Being just a bit north of me, how often do you have to do a "wasp hunt" before you take her out?  I remember finding a 6" active nest under my console one time, approx a hundred wasps and had this vision of them all coming out while I was cruising and me having to jump out of the boat to get away from them
Since then I've had a cover of some form on mine primarily just for that reason (and to also keep the leaves and such out).

thanks its an original 76 inboard. only the motor is from a shamrock, around 89 for the motor. The leaning post is made by a company in st. pete. the guy i bought it from had it made.

no cover yet, i want a nice custom but at 650, i have to wait, and the blue tarp would look to getho even for me LOL.  found a wasp nest under the console, no more so far...

thanks for the compliments too

Any idea how many of the 222 inboards were built?  I've seen the AS literature steved's posted in the gallery, but I wonder what the demand actually was for them.  Think I've only seen one for sale & that was a while ago.

The 222 hull, set up as an inboard, reminds me of the old MacKenzie Cuttyhunk bass boats which are now classics in this area & around Vinyard Sound & Buzzards Bay up here.  Speed really wasn't the main consideration; sea-keeping and "fish-ability" were the top considerations.

Have to say, the lines of the 222's look like they were really intended for inboard power, like the Mackenzie.  Hull has more than a passing familiarity with the old Mac's.

Yeah Kash, I've been "the route" on covers over the years. Anything not "sunbrella" just doesn't last very long in the sun (my boat is exposed to direct sun 24/7 - no place to hide it ) and they seem to mildew underneath something fierce even if vented.  If you clean them with a bleach solution, it shortens their life also. ( I've tried non-chlorine bleach solutions but nothing works like the real thing) I haven't spent the big bucks for a sunbrella one yet either.  The main reason is that my windshield will cut through a cover in nothing flat. If we get a good blow and the cover goes up and down much with the wind (can't stop that), when it goes down (like being vacuumed down), the windshield cuts right through it  :x
To combat this, I've designed all kinds of support systems over the years to ease the edge of that windshield and vent the heat.  Mostly been PVC supports systems, make the boat look like a blimp on a trailer, are a pain each time to reassemble but do keep the cover off the windshield and the water running off. The last couple covers I've bought have been from wally world and are made for boats and are light.  I have to buy one for a 22ft (biggest they stock) because of the height of the windshield. I also punched tarp grommets at the top/sides for venting and then jb welded screen to the inside so wasps couldn't get in. Seems to vent pretty good now.
The latest support design (last couple weeks) is a piece of 3" PVC notched to fit exactly over the top of the windshield and is an inch wider with rounded edge (no cutting the cover) and instead of PVC pipe for support "beams" to keep the water running off, I drilled holes in the pipe and run straps to the lifting eyes in front and back of the boat and snug it down.  This makes a pretty good support system. So far so good.
Your boat looks like it would be a piece of cake to cover with one of those covers from wally world and a support system from Boaters World. Sorry for the long reply.
